Rei Do Gado: The Brazilian BBQ isn't the only hot thing there! 4/18/2006

I have eaten at Rei Do Gado more times than I can count. VERY Low carb friendly for those of us following that 'lifestyle.' Out of all the Brazilian BBQs I've been to in San Diego County, Riverside County and San Francisco, this is the best! For thirteen dollars and some change, one gets great variety at the salad bar/meal accompaniment spread AND some really amazing meats during lunch hours. My favourites are the bacon wrapped filet mignon, the chicken and the delicious sausage. You gotta try the sausage! It's just the right consistency of coarsely ground meats and perfect balance of spices. After you've stuffed yourself silly to that point where you're kinda worried (know what I mean?), try the Brazilian flan. It's great! Oh, here's a tip for stuffing yourself silly: don't drink water, drink soda. Soda burping gives you some surprise reserve space to make that thirteen bucks and change well worth it. Once you've decided you can't possibly have another bite, then I suggest taking a restroom break before leaving and then spend the next hour walking around the lovely Gas Lamp District of San Diego. more

Lots of meat! 4/13/2006

If you love meat, this is the place for you. all you can eat meat. This is a brazilian steakhouse. Basically when you sit down, you can go to their salad bar, which is one of the most beautiful salad bars I have ever seen. They have array of tropical fruits like mangos. They have a lot of pretty salads and have white asparagus too which is pretty rare. They also have some soups and some rice dishes. Then there is the main course. you have this little stopper at your table, which is turned green when you are ready for the servers to come. And when you turn it to face red, that means you are done. As soon as you are ready, servers will come out from the kitchen with skewers of different types of meat. They go from table to table asking if you want a piece of it, and if you do, they will cut you a piece. The different types of meat vary between lunch and dinner. I think lunch has about 8 variety cuts of meat. And for dinner I think there is 11 or 12. There are different cuts of steak, chicken, sausage, ham, etc. It's an amazing experience. But it's a lot of meat. the servers are great too. If they see you are waiting for someting in particular, the next time they get that cut of meat, they'll go to you first. more

Please treat yourself to Rei Do Gado! 3/17/2006

This is my all time favorite in downtown San Diego. They barbecue all of these different meats on a huge grill and then they bring it around and offer you a taste or two or three. Everyone gets to try everything from the back. The little salad bar with salads and hot and cold side dishes is dreamy and the vegetable soup is amazing. I just can't explain how much I love this place. It's expensive at night but at lunch during the week it's incredibly reasonable. It's a great place to take guests and out of towners. Give it a try please! more

Buffet With Entrees That Actually Taste Good! 2/27/2006

Rei Do Gado is worth every penny you spend. They are a Brazilian Barbeque and Steak house that offers a buffet for both lunch and dinner. The entrees offered on the buffet are the same as the ones offered on the menu, and most importantly, they actually taste the same! Everything is actually good, rather than being mediocre. The food doesn't last long enough on the buffet to go cold, but everything is kept hot and fresh. The buffet is all you can eat, and changes between lunch and dinner. The lunch menu is lighter and cheaper, and makes for an ideal destination during the work week. more

Brazilian Steak House 8/18/2005

The prices are a little high, but well worth every dollar spent. This place is well known for being an all-you-can eat Brazilian Steak house. It is not your typical buffet, where you would have to wait in long lines for your food because the greedy person in front of you piled up two plates of the same item. Instead, the servers walk around with skewers containing deliciously prepared steaks, chicken, and ribs. Fillet Mignon wrapped in Bacon anybody? more

Great Brazilian Barbeque 8/14/2005

I've been to this restaurant several times - a few times for dinner and once to take advantage of their lunch special. At lunch, the prices are a lot cheaper but they offer a lot less selection. The prices are about $15 for lunch and $40 for dinner. It is more expensive Fri-Sun than on the other days. The restaurant lies in the heart of the Gaslamp District. It is an all-you-can-eat buffet. The waiters come around with meat on a large sword. The waiters will brief you on the type of meat on their sword, and you decide if you want it or not. It may seem slow in the beginning as you are waiting for different meats to arrive at your table, but they pile up quickly. They also offer a great salad bar that includes Brazillian hors d'oeuvres with a Korean flare. The meats they offer varies depending on the time of day (more meats are offered at dinner). They range from ham & pineapple to filet migon. I highly recommend the skirt steak. Drinks and desserts cost extra. more

Meat Lovers Heaven 8/10/2005

This resturant is awesome. The food is amazing and the service is top noch. It's an all you can eat buffet of meat, meat, and more meat. Cheddar wrapped Chicken, Steak, Lamb, Seafood... it doesn't stop comming to your table until you tell it to stop. Don't look to eat healthy while there, I vaguly remember asparagus and that's about it. It's a little pricy, but a good deal for great food. more
