Avalon -- for a wax or massage 9/3/2005

I've been to Avalon a couple times -- primarily for a wax and a massage. I've always been pleased with both. I think their prices are reasonable (not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either.) They do a great job and the staff is very nice. The place is comfortable and clean and relaxing. I've walked in once -- but usually call ahead for an appointment. They rarely make you wait. The front desk people are organized and get you in shortly after you arrive. They also have other services as well -- I believe manicures/pedicures and hair cuts . . .but I've only every done the wax and massage. It's a nice sized place -- not tiny and cramped like some of the spa/salons. more

Wax and a cut 8/21/2005

These were the services I got at this spa. You walk in and it has a nice feel to it, and you have beverages offered to you. My first service was a brazilian wax which I had never had before. She didn't get all the hair, and 2 days later on my way to the Caribbean I broke out in hundreds of pimples!! Ack! Well, my haircut was equally dreadful, I think the stylist was more interested in gabbing than in styling and I practically ran out of there. I would say stay away!! more

First time's a charm 8/6/2005

I went to Avalon today for the first time. I was so pleased and will definitely be going back. I had my color done with Phillipe and he was fun and very helpful. I got an appointment the next day (exactly when I wanted) it and everyone there was so nice. It was the first salon I've been to without an attitude problem. The cost was very reasonable and well worth it. No pushy sales people and the all staff was very helpful. Can't say enough nice things. more

Avalon is a very reasonably priced, and very clean, salon in the West Village. The salon itself is a very comfortable space, and the technicians only use high-end beauty products like Kerastase.
