Popular Movies, Regular Showtimes 7/12/2006

Century is a huge, Jetsons-type, futuristic-looking theater that shows the Hollywood hits and in the "Ciné Arts" section does a few independent films. The theater has two places to buy food, and a place to listen to live music and sit at a bar. Always a good hangout spot, and if you validate your parking ticket you can get (for the most part) free parking at the garage across the street. If you want to see the latest mainstream movie, you can see it here. Unfortunately the don't start until about ten in the morning, and then they only go until ten or eleven at night. more

Great Movies, Whether You're Looking for Mainstream or Indie 6/27/2006

Like so many other folks, I love the Century Theatres in Evanston. They offer an amazing selection of the current movies on offer. If you want to see the latest blockbuster, it's here; if you're more of the Indie type, you can find that too. This theater is an experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a cocktail or play a game of pool. Sure they have the regular popcorn and soft drinks, but who doesn't love a glass of wine to argue over once you've seen the movie? I can't say enough good things about this movie theater. Not only has it been a great addition to downtown Evanston, it offers a wide range of shows. Sign up online for their weekly email, and get free snacks too. Park across the street and take your ticket to get stamped at the theater. I have convinced many die-hard Chicagoans to travel north for their movie going. It's certainly worth the trip. more

I'm Actually Kinda Impressed 5/14/2006

I think that the inside of this theater is fairly impressive. I am referring to the architecture and the design. The movies that they show in the main rooms are usually the same as most cineplexes. They have an "art house" side to them, by having a few "art" or indie type films shown here as well fits in a little better with this area. This also sooths the feathers of the artistic community a little bit. Expect to pay full price however. They have their own parking lot across the street and there are plenty of options for dining around here as others have pointed out. more

A Fine Movie-Going Experience 5/9/2006

Making the trip out to Evanston for me is a difficult one, but taking a trip to this movie complex is worth it. Evanston's downtown area has gone through a real rebirth lately with all kinds of shops, condoes and restaurants sprouting up like weeds. These theaters should be seen to be believed. There is a bar located in the lobby. Yes, a bar. People lean against the bar and have cocktails. You can actually go to this movie theater and then just drink if you want to. The great thing about these theaters is that it plays the smaller independent films right along side the mass-market big-budget movies. It was at this theater I saw "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" before it went into wide release. I saw Tim Burton's "Big Fish" here too with my entire family. The theaters are comfortable and feature stadium seating. The snack selection can leave you pondering for hours if you aren't careful. It's worth the trip out to Evanston even if you live in the suburbs for this movie-going experience. more

nice facilities but no midnight showtimes 8/6/2005

this faciltiy is relatively new and well-kept. there are over 10 cinemas in this cineplex, resulting in a wide range of movie options and showtimes. the only downside is that there are no mid-night showtimes - the latest are typically 10pm or so. either way, the location is great - if you're early , you can just browse across the street at borders. more

Great movie complex 8/6/2005

Century Theatres is a fairly new complex in downtown Evanston. They have two theaters, one of which shows movies with more artistic value. They show many movies at the same time and have a great student discount. You can also stop by the Wolfgang Puck's which is downstairs for a few drinks. Right across the street is the Borders bookstore and public parking. With validation from the theater you can get up to 4 hours free parking. more

very good movie theater 7/31/2005

That part of Evanston downtown is relatively new - Century Theater opened in 2002 I think. (if I remember correctly). It is large, clean, actually in the same place there are 2 theaters: Century 12 Evanston and Century CinéArts 6. The first one is for any movie, the second one is usually for the movies more likely to be liked by art movies' lovers. The location is perfect, close to any kind of restaurant you might think of, and just across from Borders. And, the parking is free- for 4 hours- you just have to validate your parking ticket when you buy the movie ticket(s) more
