Very helpful and informative 7/18/2011

Our family took our 5 year old lab to this place yesterday. She was playing in the back yard, starting yelping and crying in pain and then lost use of her hind legs. My husband took her in right away and the staff were very focused on our dog. They let him stay with her, but wanted to get her calmed and stabalized. In my opinion, in an emergency like this, this is exactly what a vet is suppose to do - focus on my injured animal. After she was stabilized, they explained the possible causes to my husband and recommend that she be kept for medical management for the next 24 hours and be re-evaluated then. We called later that evening, and the vet on duty explained everything that was going on. They didn't withold information to make the prognosis sound better, but did tell us that there were two indicators to have hope in that she would recover. That night (between 6 pm and 8 am) they called around the city to find a neurologist to help us. Each time we called, they were very compassionate to our grief, and kept us fully informed. They did all they could to find the specialist we needed, and then bargained with them to get services within our budget so we wouldn't have to. Yes, the fees were expensive, but it's an emergency vet. They are always expensive. It's an expectation when needing emergency care. I know that our dog was well cared for, and that her best interest is the focus of the vets here. I am very happy with the service I received in this very difficult circumstance. more

This Vet WILL take advantage of you. 5/11/2009

I took a guinea pig to this vet in an emergency situation. It was during standard hours, although on a Sunday. My guinea pig had become sick during the night. As I had guinea pigs in the past I knew that there wasn't going to be anything they could do, and he was suffering. So I made the decision to have this animal clinic to put him to sleep. I was very upset so I signed my name on the receipt without even looking at the invoice. I thought the $126 charge was steep, but as i was upset, I didn't take a look at the invoice. Later that afternoon I decided to find out why it cost so much. I understood the $36 fee for Euthanasia, and the $36 fee for cremation. I even understood the $6 fee for Bio-Hazard, although I thought this would be covered under the cremation cost. What I DID NOT understand was the $48 fee I was charged for an 'Examination Brief'. This $48 charge was ridiculous! No vet examined my guinea pig. I was the one who told them to put him to sleep. There was no examination involved. I can imagine that the vet spent a total of 5 minutes with my animal. Which is more then enough time to register the shot. When I was asked if I wanted to watch the process, I said that I wanted to. However the lady at the front desk later came back, and told me that I could watch, but the shot could take a very long time. So I changed my mind because I didn't want to witness that. I was later told by a friend who was a vet that I was LIED to, and that the shot didn't take hardly any time to take affect. I cannot stress this enough. DO NOT use this vet. more

Is there a rating lower than poor 12/1/2007

We took our kitty to Animal Emergency because he had a blocked bladder. My vet was out of town and she suggested they cath him and send him home so she could look at him in the am. The little boy who just got his dvm but slept through bedside manners, said little kittie needed x,y & z, which would cost me over $1k, just to get him through the night. I said, no. Then they do the used cars sales tatic and give me a new low cost quote for tonight only. Nope, I still cant spend that, I just want to take my cat home. OH NO! you cant do that! Your cat will die a horrible and painful death, TONIGHT, if you dont'! I restated that if he made it thought the night, I would have my vet take care of him in the am. The vet said I was going to have to euthinize my cat if I was going to be so inhumane and not spend $$$ on him now! I will have my vet do it, I restate. NO! you have to do it now! and put him out of his missery, he said. Nope, I want to take my kitty home. Wait, the vet said, I talked to the owner and I can at least drain his bladder for the low low cost of $200 tonight, because we are good and you are bad! Needless to say, I'm $200 lighter and took little kitty to my vet who said, I'm not running all these tests, it's a waste of your $ and all we need to do is change his food. Oh, and my vet said he isn't going to die and I don't have to put him down. Okay, I'm grateful they were able to unblock him, but I'm pissed as hell that those people wreaked emotial havoc on me and almost convinced me to kill my cat so they could make a buck. This may sound exaggerated, but the words they did not say, they certainly insinuated. more

Do Not Take Your Animal Here!! 10/18/2007

We brought our puppy here when she was having a hard time breathing after being diagnosed with pneumonia earlier that day by her regular vet, after first being diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection the previous week. This facility did not have the adequate equipment to take care of her the way she needed and they didn't tell us this until it was almost too late. Once we figured out what she needed, we had everything ready to go and another vet on the way to pick her up to transfer her to his hospital. Conveniently right after they heard this news, they called and told us our puppy died of "cardiac arrest" even though I had just spoken with them to get an update on her and they said her heart was in excellent condition. Not only did they not treat our puppy right, they did not treat us right either. Here we are, spending thousands of dollars to get our puppy well and all they cared about was the money. They had absolutely no compassion whatsoever. We would go and visit our poor baby and after two minutes of seeing her they would say "we need more money". Obviously we were there to pay, but we wanted to spend time with our little one. Their bedside manner really sucks. They are heartless. They used our baby as a little guinea pig. To top things off, after she died and we called to say we wanted to come get her body so we could bury her next to our other deceased dog, they said "you owe us $108 before we'll release the body". We spent over $2300 in two days and they killed our dog and then over $108 would not give us the body. These people are just cruel. I would never recommend this vet to ANYONE. If you have an emergency, please try to find another emergency vet to take your pet to. I took my other dog here a few years ago because she started shaking her head uncontrolably one night and they said she was having "focal seizures" and put her on phenibarbitol and everything and charged us about $600. Well, the next day after reading about bulldogs online, I found out that "head tremors" are a common ailment for bulldogs. The doctors at this vet just want money. Her regular vet even said told me that and said it's normal for bulldogs to do that. Every vet should know that. Instead, they just wanted to charge an outrageous bill and put my dog through a bunch of crazy tests that she didn't even need to go through. The bottom line is that this hospital is just a money-hungry lab. They don't care about your animal and especially not your feelings at such a sensitive time. more
