state theatre 8/18/2005

The State Theatre is a very cool movie house. In fact, it is essentially an Ann Arbor staple. It shows many independent arts films that attract an eclectic audience. Also, it is located right in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, so after you enjoy your movie, you can go out for a great night on the town. more

Nice interior. 8/18/2005

I’m not sure if this is the exact State Theater to post under, but it will do. The State is awesome because they have a really interesting interior, much more grandiose than Quality 16 or the other corporate movie theaters. It all looks very regal, which for me, makes a great viewing experience. I love it there. more

A good experience 8/12/2005

It's definitely different from hitting up a Showcase. Most people go there specifically to enjoy the cushy seats, the grand-but-not-gaudy decor, and the atmosphere. They mostly play independent films, or ones that are not overly comercialized. Though the prices aren't great, it's not out of the ordinary in comparison to other movie theaters nowadays. I'd recommend going there with a date or on a special occasion, but it's not someplace that you'd go to hang out with 10 of your rowdy buddies. more

Movies with Student Discounts 8/10/2005

State Theater seems like a hole in the wall at first, you walk in and there's a ticket counter, and not much else. But once you go upstairs you see that it has some charm and character as it has that old glamour feel when you're upstairs. While the theaters themselves aren't very large or modern, they still have stadium seating and seats that rock, so the seats are comfortable. One of the best parts of the theater is actually the women's bathroom, as it has a lovely lounge area with nice couches. Also in a world where going to the movies costs about 8 bucks, it's nice to find a theater that has a student discount. more

A nice experience 8/3/2005

The state theater, located on State street right in the middle of campus central, is interesting because the façade looks like there’s nothing inside, yet once inside, you can see that there is always something going on. They only have two theaters, I believe. But it was the first theater in the area to show Napoleon Dynamite when it first came out. more

State Theatre 7/23/2005

This theatre is quite old, but classic. The seats aren't the most comfortable, but it is an "old school" movie theatre. Selection of movies playing is quite small, and a small snack bar as well. Parking can be a little difficult, but there are structures nearby as well as many places to eat that are close. more
