Best Virginia Style BBQ Hands Down 4/5/2010

The best local BBQ place in the Richmond area hands down. When you walk in there for the first time just get yourself a minced BBQ sandwich with a limeade, and if you are feeling it get some hush puppies on the side. Make sure you put a good amount of their hot sauce on your sandwich and and you will blown away. I buy bottles of their hot sauce just for myself because it's so dag on delicious on all kinds of pork products and pizza. Try any of those items on the menu and you won't be disappointed! This location in my favorite as you can hit a bucket of balls at the Bogey's across Broad and then grab yourself a BBQ sandwich and limeade to cool ya down afterward. Pros: Minced BBQ, Limeades, and the Hot Sauce are all staples more

Better off if you keep driving 12/13/2009

You know I read my reviews on my way home from Louisa County. My phone showed me there was a barbecue restaurant in the area and I decided I would give it a try. Boy was I wrong! Google maps led me to the restaurant, that I ended up passing twice I might add. My problem was that I passed it twice because I was looking for a restaurant in this town that looked like it had just gotten it's first traffic light installed. Anyways, I pulled into the lot of a gas station already full of apprehension that I was geting food prepared for me at the same place people were pumping flammable liquids into their car but I figured I would give it a shot. I walked in and decided it would be a good idea to wash my hands before I decided to ingest anything here. I walked into the restroom and was sure I was in a truck stop because of how filthy it was but I was at least satisfied to find running water. So I walk up to the counter and placed my order which consisted of a barbecue sandwich, hush puppies, onion rings, and a cherry limeade. The food was served rather fast and after I ate it I understood why. The barbecue had just gotten out of a bath I presume because when I picked it up it instantly fell apart because the bread was soaked. At least I had a fork. The barbecue was about as taste filled as a piece of wet cardboard. Fortunately I had a bottle of Bill's own special hot sauce on the table. I poured it on my barbecue ready to actually taste something. Fooled again! I am pretty sure it was just water mixed with some thick red food coloring. The hush puppies or ""hush bricks"" as I would like to refer to them were terrible as after I bit into one of them I instantly saw a trip to the dentist in the near future so I could fix my broken teeth. The onion rings were probably left out for a few months in the sun because I did not taste any onion but it was in the form of a ring. The limeade was terrific and very comparable to a one I have had in the famous Doumar's diner in downtown Norfolk. I would have stayed longer to try the pie that was raved about in the reviews but I am sure had I stayed in that town any longer, I would have been abducted by aliens. Simply put, I would keep driving along 64 and wait until I get to Richmond, unless you like vomiting in your mouth. Pros: Limeades were good Cons: Everything else about the place more

Where else can you get bbq for breakfast 6/23/2003

Bill's isn't the best barbecue, but it's good, the pie's and limeade are great and I love stopping in on our way to North or South Carolina for a barbecue breakfast. We get the family meal pack and make our own sandwiches. This is a real bargain when you're feeding 5 or 6 hungry people. I've been stopping here for 25 years and I'm hoping it will still be a good place to stop for 25 more. more

No way! 10/31/2002

Reminded me of canned school cafeteria food. If your idea of real BBQ is smoked pork, pulled and chopped, with a tasty sauce, steer clear. more

Craving Bill's BBQ since 1966 7/23/2002

I now live in Bloomington, Illinois - a real barbeque ghost town. The bbq here is disguised with red sauce. Bill's knows that good bbq doesn't need a lot of sauce to be spicy. They think putting cole slaw on your sandwich is strange. Go figure? From the sandwich wrapped in paper with a toothpick to anchor it down to the delicious creme pies and fresh-squeezed lemonade, Bills has my vote hands down. I have been known to travel from my home town, Charlottesville (60+ miles) to the Short Pump exit off 64 just to have a Bill's. I think Bill's is the reason I went to college at VCU. Pros: Good locations, Friendly/fast service, Consistant quality Cons: Small sandwich, A little pricey more
