I just moved from california and was told to try Koi Kawa in the Quarry Market. I ordered some sashimi, wow they're fish is really fresh and that's hard to find in Texas. The server and the chef were very informative on the food and outtings to go to. The chef made me a special roll that he invented right there and then, ""oh my God"", it was delicious I crave it all the time. I really recommend this spot whether to dine alone or with friends. All I can truely say is WOW!!! I was thoroughly impressed on a Sunday night a few weeks ago and I have to say the two sushi chefs really are informative and helpful. Antony and Yancy ( I hope I spelled right) the two chefs helped me and my girlfriend pick out our sushi for us and made us some special rolls not on the menu! I am not sure if this is normal but they really made us feel important and really welcome. Our waitress though was kind of standofff-ish seemed to be having a bad day, but the sushi made up for it. If you get the time to sit for awhile see what they have to offer and by the way unlike all of the other ""sushi"" bars in town they only have a couple of rolls with cream cheese on them wich is a good thing. My girl friend and I drove in from Austin and ate there last weekend, we eat sushi very often in Austin, but this place has the best sushi in town. Sushi chefs are very friendly to us, they constantly checking on our meals, they even offered us sample of their new sushi rolls. Their sushi are very fresh and the size is above average sushi bar, I highly recommand this place if you are a sushi eater. Pros: Good sushi menu, Friendly service, good price more

Not a real sushi bar- just a trendy wanna-be. Some of the worst sushi I've ever had. They don't even serve tempura. The server was nice, but didn't know anything about sushi. Don't waste your time. more

I ate here with my bf when we took out our friend for his birthday. yes, it looked like a sushi bar and all but i didn't even see a japanese cook or waiter. the food was pretty pricey, you get 6 pieces of sushi for about 8 dollars. they do sell sake and some other asian beverages if that is what you're looking for. the place is pretty trendy and it's located in the famous quarry market, right behind the movie theater so it is not very hard to find. the serving of food it not that much so if you want to get full, try going somewhere else where it is not as expensive... i give it a 6. Fish is best served fresh and San Antonio is not near the sea. But I have to give credit to this restaurant for the freshest Maguro in town. The fastest service which if you have been to places like Goros you will appreciate. I have actually gotten out of there in 15 min.(to see a movie). For the exceptional sushi lovers who know fresh from trash(you know who you are) try this place out. Ask what is fresh, and imbibe.
