Great atmosphere. Friendly service. Terrific memory. 10/27/2010

We visited the Garden Cafe on a Saturday evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the unique atmosphere - I would describe it as funky, cool, whimsical, artsy, and charming. Our waiter was very friendly and offered excellent service. A great little get-a-way for a casual evening of delicious dining! Thanks for the wonderful time! more

A Great Restaurant 1/31/2009

The atmosphere is outstanding. I would describe it as casual but elegant. But the best kept secret is Friday nights. That's when Ansel Couch entertains. This gifted singer-guitarist plays all your favorite acoustic music. He is especially good with 60's and 70's. If you're a babyboomer and names like Simon/Garfunkel, the Beatles, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, etc. mean anything to you, you will not be disappointed. The crab cakes were excellent and so was my service. If you are into acoustic music, have dinner on a Friday at the Garden Cafe and top it off with a concert at the Sylvia Theater. Pros: Live acoustic music while you eat. Great food. Cons: None from my visit! more

Fantastic Food and Service 7/23/2008

I have been to this restaurant many times with groups or just a couple and every time the food was outstanding and the service was tops. I look forward to my next visit and am happy to spread the word about this hidden gem. Pros: great for adults which is nice Cons: expensive more

WORST Service in my LIFE!!!!! 5/6/2008

WORST service in my LIFE!!! Don't go with a group, whatever you do! In 1-1/2 hours I received ONE glass of water, with NO refills. When I went to the cash register area to get more, a waitress was offended and haughty at MY annoyance! I said that I was served my food and had finished it and was tired of waiting for a refill. She was argumentive said that they were doing ""the best they could"" and she was sorry, in a completely sarcastic tone, as if I was unreasonable. Then when I paid, I was given NO bill, just told the total. I wondered why it was so high and only paid an extra dollar for the tip since it was such poor service. NOW I realize the tip was included, yet the cashier didn't tell me! She let me walk away quickly without pointing that out. As I was leaving, one lady was interested, and lent an apologetic ear, but then the OWNER came out and joined in with the same EXCUSES as the first RUDE server. The owner pretty much erased the improved feelings that the nice lady had created. Don't know when or IF I'll EVER go back to Garden Cafe!!! more

Our absolute favorite! 12/4/2007

Each time we eat here we talk for days about how good the experience was. The atmosphere is very unique, the owner really knows how to make shappy sheek feel classy. The waitresses are friendly - but busy. The music is one or two guys singing mood music - adds a nice ambiance. The value for your money is by far the best I've seen in the area. My favorite, though, is the buttermilk pie. It is so good!!!! In fact all the dessert are homemade and exceptional. more

Finally an Adult Restaurant 7/5/2007

The Garden Cafe has everything an adult wants; atmosphere, customer service and an exceptional menu. This is a great place for a couple to have a date night, or celebrate an anniversary or for anyone wanting to get away from chain restaurants. It is refreshing to find a restaurant like this. Pros: Locally owned, Ambience, Variety of menu, Excellent parking more

York's attempt at Fine Dining... 11/12/2005

The Garden Cafe is a fun place for adults but is not very kid friendly. The lack of a Jr. Menu makes this so. Upon first entering, the over dressed hostesses give this establishment an unnecessary air of snootiness. Lunch is the better value as the portions are only slightly smaller than at dinner but the prices are much more in line. The food on the other hand is really good; I highly recommend the Southern Pecan Chicken or the Crab Cakes... remember; Sandwiches at lunch for about $7 to $9 respectively or plated for dinner with a starch or single veg (salads are extra) for about $17 to $19.... Get the picture? Open mic on Wednesday Nights can be fun but their regular solo guitarist Anson is quite talented; also quite white-bread, milk-toasty. Pros: good food, live music, open late - bar Cons: expensive at dinner more

A catus in the snow! 8/11/2005
