On August 29, 2009 at approximately 2:30 am my fiancée and I checked into the Maplehurst Motel. We should have known from the start not to complete the check-in process as the Clerk was surly and rude. I mentioned that the price was not what was originally quoted to me over the phone; the Clerk’s response was, “That is not my problem, it’s yours.” Since, we had traveled a long distance and were tired we ignored him and went into our room. The outside of the motel didn’t look that great, however we never expected the horror we found inside.\r

Upon entering we left almost immediately! The room smelled it was absolutely filthy; my 11 year-old could have made a better bed. Underneath the worn bedspread were stained sheets, the mattress and box spring were dirty, stained and ripped. \r

In addition, the security to the room was non-existent, there was only a slam lock (no dead bolt) and the sliding door with access to a yard had no lock at all. \r

When we went back to the main building to complain, we found the door had been locked and had to call the registration number to get the Clerk on the phone. After waiting 10 minutes and complaining about the conditions, we were told that there was a no refund policy and that he could change the sheets. Only after my fiancée, mentioned that she was going to call the police and take pictures of the room and email them to a relative who is a lawyer did the Clerk offer to return $10.00 off of the $87.14 bill – we insisted on a full refund. \r

The Clerk finally relented, while trying to process the refund we were charged a second time for the room. We now had to get two credits and had to call our credit card company to make sure that both charges were removed.\r

I would not recommend this Motel to my worst enemy. If I had a choice I would have rated that motel negative 10 stars; however that is not an option for me to post this review. If you are in the area and need a room, go to the Shadowbrook Inn. It is a lot nicer and very clean.\r
