Long wait for a good breakfast 7/10/2006

We went there on a Sunday for breakfast and were seated promptly, bought coffee and our orders taken. 30 minutes later and after our 3rd refill our breakfast was finally served. I had the basic 2 egg breakfast with toast and potatoes which was good but how long does it take to prepare eggs?\r \r If the cook could speed things up a bit I would give this place a 10 Pros: good breakfast Cons: long wait for food more

Pleasant 6/11/2006

Seating was quick, but as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, it took a little bit for the food as there was only one cook when we went. The service was good and I never had to ask for more coffee or water as it was always being topped off. Food was delicious! My only complaint is the hours - we routinely go to breakfast during the week, and 8am is a bit of a late start in my opinion. Pros: Cosy Atmosphere, Friendly Staff Cons: Small-ish place more

The Best Breakfast in Town!!! 11/17/2005

This place has it figured out. Every dish on their menu is to die for. The french toast is amazing, the best eggs benny in town and their scones!!! Go once and you will never turn back. The service is always quick and with a smile. Don't miss out on this great Portland gem!!!! more

Worst service that I have ever experienced. 9/5/2005

I was appalled at the complete lack of service at Henrys. After we ordered we were abandoned for 40 minutes until we went up to the counter to ask for our beverages. The food took an additional 15 minutes and arrived cold and incorrect. We had to again go to the counter to find a server to get our order corrected. The food was average at best and thats being kind. No server ever returned to our table to refresh drinks or clear dishes. When we complained about the service a man identifying himself as the owner proceeded to insult us for being impatient and uptight. He finally offered to comp our drinks but when the check arrived it wasnt ours and we had to visit the counter once again. When we got the correct bill it was for full price. Needless to say we wont be returning. Pros: Bright Cons: Service, Portions, Ownership more

Cozy neighborhood breakfast 2/7/2005

We lived in the Division/Clinton neighborhood for about a year before discovering Henry's tucked away next to La Cruda. It's now our favorite spot for an early morning, roll out of bed & stumble down the street breakfast. We go early to avoid crowds, and we always leave sated & happy. I love the M&P omelette -- a perfect, fluffy, delicious omelette stuffed with Henry's meat & potato hash & cheddar cheese. Yum! The potatoes are done to perfection and delicious. The toast is hearty & delicious, though sometimes cold by the time it makes it to the table -- but this never stops us from going back! Pros: Value, Well prepared food, Fun location Cons: Crowds for brunch more

Henry's rocks Clinton Street 5/25/2004

When I lived in the neighborhood, I would visit on a very regular basis. Even now that I live across town I go often -- it's still my favorite breakfast place in town. I think I've had everything on the menu (the b'fast menu, anyway) and there's not a loser among them. The omelettes arrive fluffy and soft -- never tough, nor runny, frequent problems at other brunch spots. Though the standards shine, my favorites are the dishes that no one else in town does, like the grilled polenta breakfast, the New York scramble and ""Lou's breakfast"". Plus they have great coffee which is generously refilled. I always leave pretty hopped up! Though the waitstaff can get easily distracted when there's a crowd I've never expereinced the problems the other reviews here mention. I've been dozens of times and the servers have always been friendly and helpful and (usually) prompt. Pros: perfect eggs, creative dishes, great location more

Not very 5/27/2003

Food was good, wait was not too bad. The service was NOT very good. Constantly forgotten, yet we sat in plain view. Waited a while just for menus and once we ordered the soon to be discovered tasteless coffee, we were already ready to walk out. Had our waiter not apologized quite a few times, we would have. We do not plan on returning there. This place epitomized the horrible service industry in Portland. Pros: waiting list, food, decor Cons: service, coffee more

Not worth it. 12/18/2002

I live in the area and have given Henry's many chances. My conclusion, however, is that the food, which is overseasoned and often served cold, is very overpriced. As if that weren't enough, the wait staff is apparently too cool to be friendly. In addition, they do not allow outside beverages, nor will they allow splitting bills with credit cards. They might consider noting this so that customers can at least be informed. In short, Henry's equals inconvenience and mediocre food at prices higher than most breakfast spots, served by servers with serious attitude problems. No thanks. more
