Editorial review from Citysearch 7/30/2012

This is now 'Fitness Connection'. I never went when it was Golds, but I don't believe it's changed much. The equipment and employees are fine. My only comment is that, if you go mid-day, there are a lot of elderly and they will camp out on a piece of equipment. more

Worst Cancellation Issues 3/15/2012

When they say 30 day's notice and you have asked them how to cancel 60 days before you need to and then when 30 days come and you try to cancel. They say well it will actually be 30 days from your next bill date. Thanks for telling me I only needed 30 days to cancel... They are miracle workers at pro-rating your first half month there, but when trying to pro-rate your last half month that's somehow impossible. Go figure. Managers were always horrible at customer service, front desk workers were great. Honestly, If I was at corporate, I'd make some of my front desk workers managers. more

Credit Transaction Theft 7/11/2011

I joined this place four months ago. Initially, for the first 15 days every thing was fine. Later on they started charging my credit card twice a month. when i went and asked the manager he said he charged me only once and he has no idea about the two transactions made. I also gave him my credit card statements. But, they never refunded my money. Even when i cancelled my membership they kept on charging my credit card. I had to finally cancel my card. But, still they kept on sending me mails to my house saying am still due. They are a big crap. Never join there. The classes were really good, but the manager is a idiot. No matter what they gave me a big headache. more

Okay Gym but horrible locker rooms / showers 1/11/2011

The gym is in a great location, there is a good amount of equipment around. The Cardio Cinema is nice if you are looking to just have a nice area for running, etc. However, when you stop into the locker rooms things kind of change. Worst off is the showers, I could start a science experience with the mold growing in there. It is all tile, just clean it and seal it already....rather freeze on the ride home then shower there again! Even thinking of changing gyms due to it. more

Hidden fees 7/10/2010

Imagine our surprise when we were hit with $50 of unduscussed fees this week. After calling the facility they stated that these are ""Club Enhancement fees"" The only enhancements that have been completed since we bacame members were in the summer when they repaired one of the broken AC units lowering the temperature from 101 degrees to 93 degrees inside the gym. Pros: Finally a gym built for results not sales! Cons: The ""other""Gold's in town are not the same as this. more

Cancellation Issues & Hidden Costs 3/1/2010

The equipment and classes in this gym are okay, but from day one I felt like I was getting ripped off. When I first asked about membership, they told me it was $42/month, but when I came back in to sign the paperwork, it said $42.99, which is $43 in my book. But, I figured it was only a dollar, so I went ahead and signed up. Then, I found out I would have to pay $5 extra per month if I wanted to use any other Gold's Gym in the Triangle. They never mentioned that when I asked about membership - told me I could use any Gold's gym around the world. Now, I've moved across town so I wanted to cancel my membership. The contract says I need to give 30 days notice. I called the 1-800 number for Gold's gym and they said I needed to physically go to my home gym to fill out the paperwork to cancel. I drove across town and filled out the paperwork on January 18. The front desk staff told me my membership would end February 18, so I didn't even try to go for most of the month. I ended up getting billed for the whole month of February. I called to complain and was told that the 30 days notice depends on your billing cycle, which could either be on the 1st or 15th of the month. So, effectively, you have to give 6 weeks notice at least. Front desk staff are friendly but give out wrong information. I gave them 2 stars because the classes are good and the location used to be convenient for me. more

Cary location is Perrrrrrfect!!! 1/29/2009

I joined Gold's Gym awhile ago but at the North Hills location. I love that gym but recently moved to the Cary area and went into the club to check it out. This place is spot less. I love the Cardio Cinema that they have there and the club is in a very nice part of town that is easy to get to. I was surprised to find out that since I used to be a member of Gold's in the past that I received a HUGE discount for coming back. I cancelled previously at North Hills because I wanted to check out Lifetime but once I got over there it was a meat market and the most crowded gym I've ever seen. Not to mention when I went in to workout I felt like cattle as the herded me past the front counter. Needless to say I'm back at Gold's where I love. Thank you for the wonderful gym you provide me. Pros: Not expensive and they are super nice Cons: that there are not more locations out there like this one in Cary more

Multiple Cancellation Issues & Management who is Incapable to Troubleshooting Their Own Problems 11/20/2008

After being a member of the club on and off for 10 years, I tried to cancelled my membership when I was moving away from grad school. I submitted the form and documents as requested. The club committed to cancel my membership in August. In September, they were still charging my debt card. I called the club. They claimed not to have a record of my registration paperwork and made me resubmit everything. In the meantime, they kept charging my account. Although I dont keep paperwork, I did in this case because my brother had had a similar issue over the summer and several friends who we had referred to the club also had to deal with a lot of hassle when cancelling their memberships. I resent the paperwork and a few weeks later the club followed up with me saying that they would reimburse only partially, because they proof that I sent the second time around was dated august. I finally got a hold of the regional manager, Dom Routh who once again confirmed his decision to reimburse for Oct and Nov only because my proof was dated Aug. What happed to Sep? I never got an answer because he hung up the phone on me and threatened me not to call the club again. I never got an answer for when they will stop charging my card or when they will reimburse what was promise... not to mentioned why they breach their contract. If this was not a small amount of money I would seek a lawyer. I feel powerless and have not been able to pay attention in classes this week due to the amount of distress that the management of gold's gym has caused. I do not wish this treatment to any customers... specially those who paid membership fees for almost 10 years. Pros: facility, classes, staff Cons: bad /incompetent new management who has no training on customer service more

Best gym and keeps me in great shape 1/15/2007

I love to workout, but I have had such bad experiences with gyms in the past that I gave up. I finally decided to give the gym another shot. I researched many gyms in the Cary and Raleigh area, but none offered as much as Golds gym. When I went in for a consultation Andrew was not pushy at all, he made me feel at home from the moment I entered the door. They gave me a great rate, and many bonuses. Since having a membership I have been to the gym nearly everyday, and every time I walk through that door there is always a welcoming greeting. The classes are also awesome, the instructors keep me motivated and ready for more. I am proud to say I love this gym!!!!! Pros: Excellent customer service, awesome classes, great amenities more

Cary Gold's Gym 10/19/2006

I belong to Gold's Gym and usually go to the Durham location. I stopped by the Cary location to work out, and was mildly disappointed. The space is extremely small. No towel service. While they do have up-to-date equipment, everything is so sandwiched together that there is no sense of division between areas. For anyone who likes at least a tiny bit of space when they work out, I'd recommend a different branch. It was a clean facility, but an appropriate label would be to call it 'Gold's Express', or 'Gold's Lite'. Pros: Clean, Up to date machines and media Cons: Tiny, No towel service, Gym areas cramped more
