Editorial review from Citysearch 2/10/2013

Arrived for a cataract surgery. Handed my insurance card to the secretary at the Georgia Eye surgical center, along with the requested $200 co-pay. I asked twice if that was all I'd need to pay for facility and doctor services. She ASSURED me that was all. My insurance would cover the rest. \r \r Within two weeks I received two bills totaling more than $800: one for the facility and the other for the doctor's services. When I phoned they said they didn't take my supplemental insurance and had billed through regular medicare. \r \r That woman had held my insurance card, looked me straight in the eye, and lied to me. My insurance is in wide use so she had to know they don't take it. more

This place is awful. I came here with an existing prescription to get glasses and, although they were in my insurance's network, they refused to file with my insurance since I hadn't gotten my exam done there. I was told it was something I would have to do on my own and I was forced to pay out of pocket for my frames and lenses (not a small chunk of change). When I contacted the insurance company to file, they said it was Georgia Eye's responsibility and they would speak with them. After several days, Georgia Eye returned my insurance's call and promised to file the claim and give me a reimbursement. That was three months ago and, again, the billing company is M.I.A. I am very disappointed and I will never do business here again. more

Worst Experience Ever 9/9/2011

I was hesitant to keep my appointment after making it and then reading the reviews I found online. I was very interested in getting Lasik Surgery and this office was on my insurance plan so I went. They were rude on the phone, strike 1. When I arrived to check in, they were rude right from the start, strike 2. When I was taken back for my exam, the girl doing the exam made it very clear that she was very bored with this process and had no patience with me as I tried to read the eye chart. At one point, she even burped loudly without apology, strike 3. She rushed through the exam and when I couldn't read the chart she just gave up. The Doctor came in and was just as bad, apparently they don't care at all about their patients. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Also I was given a prescription for glasses that wasn't even correct, I still can't see!! Don't go to these people unless you are into rude and uncaring! more

Dr. Joseph Stubbs, Opthalmologist, Ga. Eye Institute 8/11/2010

After years of treatment by Dr.Stubbs, when he decided to close his practice, he did not have the professional courtesy to notify me he would no longer provide me with medical service. Furthermore, in recent years, the staff at Ga. Eye Institute were neither efficient, consumer-friendly, nor available by telephone. Consumers, don't use Georgia Eye Institute in Savannah. more

Outstanding and Frustrating for 10+ Years 3/2/2009

I was extremely happy with the care provided to me by Dr. James Beisel for over ten years. Dr. Beisel was courteous, helpful, friendly and very responsive to all my needs and questions. I could not have asked for better care. However, I was often extremely frustrated by the staff which sometimes failed to communicate important information to me on a timely basis. I think the problem is that Georgia Eye Institute has more patients than it can handle in a helpful and courteous manner by the majority of its staff. Thumbs up for Dr. Beisel. Thumbs down for Georgia Eye Institute. Pros: Dr. Beisel is Fantastic. Cons: Communication with the staff was often a major problem. more

Awful contact lens fitting 9/16/2008

GA Eye Institue 8/8/2007

It is a sad thing when someone is about to lose their eye sight, and Ga Institute turns their back on them. My sister called them , she has swelling behind the retina, Dr told her it needed to be taken care of at once. They recommended them. They turned her down because she had no insurance. Pros: Don't call them Cons: they were very rude more
