Gorgeous Grand Hotel 7/27/2008

I stayed at the Stanley Hotel on 7/24/08. I was worried after reading some of the reviews but I have to say that we had a wonderful time. The Hotel is beautiful and the room that we stayed in (room 323) was fantastic. It was a very large room and was spotlessly clean. The furnishings were elegantly appointed and we had a fantastic view of a nearby lake. The only disappointments: no small refrigerator in room, no hair dryer, and no window covering over the bathroom window (which wasn't a big deal to throw a towel over it). The hotel is not air conditioned, but with the 3 windows opened, we had a nice breeze the entire time. It never felt hot or stuffy. The room was very quiet and we never heard any of the people in adjoining rooms nor did we at any time hear the water running through the walls. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The ghost tour was fun and worth the $10 per person (reserve space in advance as they fill up days in advance). The only disappointment to the tour is that you never know when the alleged ""haunted"" rooms are booked and thus have no access. Instead ,the tour will take you only to the front of the room and the guide will tell stories about the room. You do get access to the employee tunnel during the tour, which is fascinating! There is a Safeway shopping center in walking distance as well as fast food/ shopping. The surrounding grounds are dry due to drought conditions, but are still fabulous! It is a mountain setting and visitors should not expect to have lush sprawling lawns given its location. It fits perfectly with the surroundings- it feels like a mountain resort. Highly recommended (although if bringing children, the only activity for them is the pool). Pros: Service, Ambience, Location, Ghost Tour, Parking, Staff, Views Cons: No in-room refrigerator, no hair dryer, Ice-machine well hidden, crowded in the summer more

Is it haunted? 6/29/2008

A Dump! 6/26/2008

I am a CO native and had never actually stayed at the Stanley. I had been there for business and weddings only. So, I decided to treat myself on 6/1/08. At $155 a night, I was looking forward to lounging in the hotel provided bathrobe in a plush setting. When I arrived, the first thing I noticed were the grounds - they need a lawn service because the grass was dying and full of weeds. The lobby is beautiful and the check-in experience efficient. Not only was there no hotel bathrobe, the rooms are far from plush - shabby, poorly appointed and dirty. I get that it's old and historic and sometimes that means things like the plumbing are difficult to work (which it was). What I don't understand is dented, scratched, mismatched furniture, dirty dresser drawers, dirty bedspread, under-sized, thin bath towels, poor lighting and DIRTY. The space between the bed and nightstands were filthy with dirt & crumbs, the corners of the room and the carpet along all the baseboards was dirty. The room service is a joke - it took 1:15 for a salad and hamburger, the salad came without dressing and that took another :20 to arrive. I was really disappointed, especially because the things I mentioned are easy fixes when managed correctly. Pros: The lobby is beautiful and it looks like a beautiful white jewel when you first see it from the road Cons: Expensive, dirty, shabbily appointed more

The best meeting ever! 1/4/2006

Brought my company up to the property right before the Holidays and had an amazing 3 day experience at the Stanley and can't wait to come back. Service was superb, the place has so much charm and feels right. It is hard to describe, it just feels nice. The meeting rooms are unparalleled in the Rockies or Colorado. I love this hotel! Pros: Views, Ambiance, Friendly staff more

We love the Stanley! 8/18/2004

Words cannot express how much we love this hotel. Incredible views, inviting staff and a mouthwatering meal their fabulous Cascades Restaurant. As residents of CO we are able to enjoy the hotel often throughout the winter months; when it is quiet and peaceful. As a matter of fact, we love it there so much, it will be home to our wedding this winter. Even the wedding coordinators have been an absolute joy and we can't wait till our big day in that beautiful hotel. I'm thrilled it was saved and restored. We are grateful to have The Stanley at our backdoor and for all the times we have been the living guests (the ghosts never leave) in this majestic hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. (just don't come in the winter - we want that quiet time for us!) Pros: Beautiful Views, Great Staff, Classic Hotel more
