sold us more service then we needed & not forthcoming 6/4/2011

Our family is new to the Bay Area. I went to the closest to us shop - Yarnell's Auto Service for my 2006 Prius? oil change. They recommended additional service & said the car will be ready to be picked up by 4pm the same day. Later in the afternoon I got a call that my car wont be avail for a pickup the same day because their parts supplier could not ship the required soon enough. He also mentioned something vague about repairing a Toyota recall for free. When I was picking up my car next evening, I noticed slightly unpleasant scent. As days pasted, however, this scent turned into a burning smell. So, I went back to ask what was causing it & what would it take to get rid of this acute odor ? he said he cant say anything! Since we have kids - this was a major health issue for us, so we called Toyota National, they gave us the contact numbers for the closest to us Toyota dealerships in the bay area. Sunnyvale Toyota dealer told us that he will charge per hour ? could be ?a couple of hundreds of dollars?. So, we called Toyota dealer in palo alto (Magnussen Toyota), our serviceman told us not to drive at all if there is any type of burning sent coming ? I guess this is peculiar to electric or hybrid cars because they run on a high voltage or current. The service lady arranged a towing for us. I had a call back from their service manager saying that electrical settings for an auxiliary recharging system were reset. When I asked him, could it be that someone at Yarnell sprayed air freshener in a hope to suppress this odor, he said that he can?t speculate if Yarnell caused it and added that Toyota owner?s manual does not recommend servicing Toyota cars especially hybrid cars in the repair centers other than those that have Toyota trained techs. He also asked for the itemized list of jobs down to my prius. I wish that when I was picking up my car from Yarnell someone pointed out to me about this odor. All I know is that I did not have this smell before my prius? service at your place & felt it right when I picked up. And, it had cost me $119 to remove this odor at lozanos detail wash & a simple oil change turned int o 4 day ordeal more

Takes the worry out of auto repair 3/19/2006

I've been going to Yarnell's since the late 80's. It's a clean shop that's had many of the same mechanics and service personal the entire time. I've recommended the shop to many male and female friends who are Toyota owners and they've been happy as well. My wife would only look at a Toyota for her new car because she didn't want to go to another garage. Not the least expensive shop around, but a bit less than the dealer. Pros: trustworthy, quality Cons: not open weekends more

Best repair shop I've ever dealt with 2/7/2006

I trust Yarnell's with any and all repairs I need to make to my car. They are absolutely honest and eager to help out in any way they can. I even talked with one of the mechanics for half an hour about my girlfriend's car, and he helped me to figure out whether and how she had been overcharged at another shop for her 60k maintenance. I came in thinking I needed my brakes repaired, and they were up front about saying that I didn't need any brake work. These guys are great...I'm afraid to move as I won't be able to take my car to them any more. :) Pros: Honest, Knowledgable, Friendly more
