Manhattan Lasik Center

In September 2013, I went to Manhattan Lasik for a consultation to see if I was eligible for Lasik Surgery. At the consultation, I was told that I was an idea candidate for Lasik. Within a week, I had the surgery, and it was the worst decision that I have made in my life. Right from the start, in my opinion, there were red flags, but I ignored them because I was blinded with the thought of perfect vision. Instead, what resulted was severe dry eyes about a year later. My eyes are still so dry, almost a year later, that I am using eye drops 10+ times a day, along with restasis (prescription eye drops), taking fish oil as recommended by the doctor, and using anti-glare glasses to ease the pain during the day. I still experience halos around lights, subpar night vision, and have trouble focusing on objects. In addition, throughout any given day, my vision fluctuates, and I am in constant pain. The evaluation process was more like a sales pitch. The majority of the time was spent with the sales representative, and not the doctor. He was quick to throw out facts along the line of, "we have the newest technology laser, and stated that about 3 percent of patients experience complications (which I later found out did not include dry eyes which was a much higher percentage). In my humble opinion, Manhattan Lasik is interested in one thing and one thing only - making money, and the satisfaction and safety of the clients is a distant second. I recently have researched Manhattan Lasik, ands its surgeons, and it appears as though there have been multiple malpractice lawsuits. My suggestion would be to spend the extra money and go to a more reputable doctor or company. Manhattan Lasik may be cheaper than some of the competitors, but I would give up a year's pay to be able to go back and time and cancel my surgery. more

I had a horrible experience there. Not about the doc or the surgery. They were great. I was fooled by the sales guy, Thai, over and over again. He got me in to do the surgery at $3200, but when I paid, he asked for $4000! His excuse? The LASIK place I found which he said he would match the price for $3200, he said it's not the same technology. Why didn't he confirm that before asking me to schedule for the surgery? Worse yet, after he spoke with his manager (who knows if it was true), he said that his cost to do my LASIK is $3400! So, how could he have agreed to do the surgery at $3200, when it cost him $3400? He thought I was retarded? Furthermore, someone else wrote a review on y.e.l.p., and he literally accused me of writing the review, and then tried to buy off my supposed review. When I told him it wasn't him or my family that wrote it, and when he is finally convinced I was speaking the truth, he just said bye. During this conversation, I specifically told him I was not happy with the experience b/c I feel like this was bait and switch. Just b/c I didn't write a review, he didn't want to do anything to make my experience better. Well, now here is my review. I don't expect I will get my money back. But at least the general public knows, and will make a wise decision. more

Thai, the sales guy, has to go. Why? He is ruining a good business. The doctors and staffs have been very pleasant. Thai... He will try to squeeze the most money out of you. I understand he's a sales guy, but he cannot keep his promises. Went in for the $1795 LASIK surgery. Came out with a quote for $4000+ because the $1795 one is soooooooooooooo outdated and they don't even do it anymore (so why even advertise it when you don't perform the surgery?). He will BS you and say that based your eyes and prescription, you only want the best, and anything cheaper will be so much riskier... After all, you only have 2 eyes right? (yeah, thanks for scaring the crap out of me) Then when you finally get the price to be a little bit reasonable, he backs out that price right before your surgery appointment. more

This is my second time here and the scheduling is horrible. You wait hours after your assigned time slot. Twice they called to cancel appointment and to reschedule . I have been here since 9 it is now 2 and still waiting. Ty is the worst, don't let his smile fool you he is a beast on the phone when he can't have his way. more

So, it has now been 6 days since surgery. I do not have 20/20 vision. Perhaps closer to 20/40, and with slight double vision/haze. I'm unsure of course, as I can't measure myself. I can't read street signs until I'm right up on them. I tested 20/25 on the day after post-checkup, but it was very blurry and I don't think I really deserved the rating. Now when I wake up I have near perfect vision (near, not perfect). This lasts about 1-2 hours then my vision degrades quickly. I develop strain, headache and blurred vision of anything more than 6 feet out. My surgeon assures me that this is classic Dry Eye and we can treat it. While that makes me feel better, I am very nervous/skeptical for several reasons. 1) My near vision is always perfect. If I was experiencing dry eye blurriness, wouldn't this be blurry as well? 2.)Wetting drops certainly make me feel better and relieve some strain and pain, but do not clear up my vision. Wouldn't I expect to have good vision for at least a minute after drops? 3.) My left eye (originally worse) is now much better. My right is now worse (originally the better eye). If I was having Dry Eye only, wouldn't I expect to have equally poor vision in both? My vision has stayed this way since day two or three with no real improvement. I am very worried that I am just stuck with sub-par vision, despite the optimisms given to me before surgery. In fact, I'm beginning to despair pretty intensely and spending much of the day regretting this surgery. Now I'm out a few grand AND I have lousy vision AND I have to use a regiment of pricey drops? What was I thinking? Trying to stay optimistic. But is there really any chance for significant changes this far into the process? I'm hoping to hear from folks who had similar experiences, OR from folks who noticed major changes 6+ days after LASIK (to give me hope, mostly). Thank you so much for any input. more
