I never bother writing reviews for anything. But this wine store....is by far the best thing i could have wished for in this neighborhood. Ridiculously nice staff and amazingly selected wine. For someone who is a cheap lush like me, the fact that they have a great selection of 15 - 20 dollar wines that are actually really interesting and delicious is an amazing find in NY. May they live forever! more

Best wine store in the EV and LES!! 8/3/2007

I don't get these reviews! Discovery has both a large selection and a GREAT selection. And the staff has never led me wrong, whatever I wanted to spend. Get to know the staff and you will have the perfect neighborhood wine store. And, they're open on Sunday! Pros: Customer service, quality of wine more

Just figured out why this store has such a high rating.... 12/9/2006

I've been really perplexed on how such a mediocre store can have such a long list of glowing reviews...then it finally dawned on me - ALL of these glowing reviews were written by the folks that run the place! Check the date - all on the same day, right around the time these guys open. (Yes, I'm bored tonight, and yes I'm googling this stuff just to be irritating.) Anyway, it all makes so much more sense to me now. I can finally sleep. Pros: Peaceful, zen-like shopping experience since you're likely the only one shopping there... Cons: Prices, selection, value more

If you are uncomfortable, intimidated, or just plain irritated by pretentious wine snobs then this is the store for you. The store is staffed by knowledgeable, approachable, professionals that can help you find exactly what you are looking for. All of the wine in the store was hand selected for quality and price by the people working at the store. Most of the wine is under $20, although, if you are one of those people that like to spend a lot of money for a good bottle of wine, they have plenty to make you happy. Their infectious enthusiasm for wine really made the experience fun (ask for Scott Reiner). However, if you arent a big fan of speaking to people, you dont have to. The store has numerous touch screen kiosks that provide you with information on each wine by scanning the bar codes on the bottles. Pros: Service, Price, Fun more

Great wine to start! Better service and knowledge (oooh, who doesn't like the scanner?!?!?!?) You probably don't know know what good wine tastes like anyway so this is the place to visit so you can fake it! If you do, well this place can only help! Recently I used Discovery Wines for providing the alcohol for my company's holiday party. The staff, especially Scott, could not have been more helpful in helping me select great wines and vodka for the occasion! And they deliver too! Discovered this gem at a recent private wine tasting. Great space with wine tasting area at the side. Great selection of wines. Friendly and helpful staff. Ingenious system to scan each bottle, providing you with info about price, area, taste and which foods it will pair well with. Wish they had a branch on the UES. THE ONLY WINE SHOP 1/4/2005

This place is excellent! I was not expecting much other than a simple wine store and a few grumpy people to help find a bottle of wine... Boy was I mistaken!!! This place was filled with a massive collection of wine. Not only is it well organized but it has unreal computer technology that recommends each bottle with appropriate food! Go ahead: scan any bottle and you'll see the depth of knowledge behind this wine store! Also, they are the nicest, most helpful and knowledge wine connaiseurs I have ever met... I live in the west village but this is the only place I will go to buy my vino - cheers and thanks! more

Discovery Wines is a welcome addition to the Lower East Side. The store has a wide variety of wines at reasonable prices, and a very friendly staff (and clever bar code reader kiosks which describe all the bottles in the store) to help you pick the perfect bottle or case. New way of doing business 1/3/2005

Finally a retailer who is focusing their energy on the juice and not the label. This place is the home of the down sale, ""spend less per bottle and come see us again"" seems to be their mantra. Pros: unknown wines, inexpensive, fun atmosphere Cons: , little over $50 more

Finally, a wine store for the LES/E.Village that sells great bottles of vino - and at reasonable prices. No more buying wine from behind bullet-proof glass!
