Bad Sales Personnel 4/18/2011

My wife and I were in yesterday to purchase a new tree for our front yard and found a great Ash tree that happen to be on sale for 20% off. Upon making our purchase my wife asked if the the clerk had applied the discount and she said she had not. She took the time and went back through the process and added the 20% discount to our purchase. The following day the sales manager called and informed me that the discount had already been removed at the time of the purchase and that the clerk and accidentally applied an additional 20%. She asked to charge our card the $27 difference for the the clerk's error. That I can recollect that the first time I have been asked by a sales based company to fix their error. I definetly won't be making any purchases from Echters in the for seeable future. more

I Love this Garden Center 3/16/2011

I had found this place at the Garden and Home Show and decided to give them a try. I am so glad I did. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted by warm, friendly people. Their “Plant Doctor” was able to tell me right away what was wrong with my plant and get me what I needed to cure it. From there the fun adventure started. This place is huge. Everything you can imagine for the yard and garden. There is a wonderful area full of gift type things with a massive Vera Bradley display, one of my favorites. Beautiful patio furniture. Their houseplants looked great and there was a bunch of unusual things you don’t see everywhere. They have a giant outside area for trees and shrubs that they were just setting up and they said they have more greenhouses that they will open soon that are full of annual flowers. I can’t wait to come back. This is definitely my new favorite store. more

Rude service... 7/12/2010

Have shopped at Echter's off and on for several yrs for my summer flowers. Usually spend a couple hundred a summer as it's my main splurge and I love gardening. Purchased a Groupon Echter's coupon a few mos. ago for $15 for $30 worth of flowers. Went to O'Toole's Garden Center a few days ago w/a friend to help her plan her garden design, and was amazed at the great deals on perennials and annuals they had. Purchased several flats of flowers and after they were planted, realized I needed a few more to fill the remaining pots. Went to Ecther's today to use my coupon and didn't realize that they closed at 8:00. Was there at 7:45. Decided to make it quick as I didn't want to hold anyone up in closing the store. Got my business done in 7 minutes flat, and headed to the check-out stand where two older ladies (Rose & Dot) were giving me stern looks. They reminded me, as if I didn't know from the numerous store announcements blaring over the loudspeaker that 'Echter's is closing in 10 minutes'... I said I made this a quick purchase and didn't realize that they closed at 8:00. Was at Lowe's prior to this stop where they close at 9:00, and realized I should head over to Ecther's to use my coupon as I was in the neighborhood. As they were looking for my Groupon coupon # in their book where they kept all purchased Groupon coupons w/people's names next to the coupon number, I offered to help look and mentioned that perhaps some of the numbers may not be in order, as the other older lady mentioned. 'Rose' barked in a rude tone, 'we don't need your help and if we don't find your number, you can't purchase your flowers.' I said that I had purchased this coupon a few mos. ago and that I didn't want to have to make another trip to the store. After having just about enough attitude flung in my face by her and 'Dot', the manager, I stated that I didn't appreciate her rude manner and that they could deal w/the coupon # another time. Finally, Dot says that that's what they'd do, and at that moment, 'Rose' gave me a nasty look. I said I didn't appreciate the nasty look and that I'd reconsider shopping at their store again spending my $ elsewhere. As I was leaving, and by the way, the young lady waiting on me was very nice, 'Rose' shot me another dirty look. I said in this day and age in this economy, rude service doesn't cut it, and being snotty to your customers will guarantee that they won't come back. She didn't seem to care and I figured, oh well, I'll go where my business is appreciated such as Paulinos, Timberline Gardens, or O'Tooles. Pros: Selection of flowers Cons: High prices/rude service more

Go Elsewhere 5/29/2010

Purchased over $800 dollars in plants to start this season, have spent easily $7000 over the years. Two hydrangeas died back after planted. Dug them up, brought them in for replacement within three weeks of purchase. Were planted in protected patio area. Day manager rude, scolding. Nursery manager called two days later - message - we won't do anything for you. Won't replace, won't refund. Will NEVER shop here again the service and rudeness was so bad. And they used to be great - wonder what's happened? Pros: Used to have excellent service and plants Cons: Customer satisfaction no longer important. more

Editorial
  • In Short
Even with 16 acres of land, Echter's can't grow everything it sells, but it does manage to pull 85 percent of its annuals and 60 percent of its perennials from its own...
