This place is under new management. They now have a kitchen and turn out some excellent and very reasonably priced burgers - half pound angus under $6. They are also trying to get some good thiings going to support our Wounded Warriors. That alone tells you somethiing about character. The drinks prices are very reasonable. I heard some great live music there last week and as the business grows, more live music will come. I will go back. more

This place was recently bought by a great family whose sole goal is providing an atmosphere that is currently unavailable in the area: low-key, clean, and relaxing. The kitchen is up and running and has daily lunch specials that are delicious and affordable, not to mention a wide variety of bottled domestic and import beers and a working tap with different brews cycling out regularly. The staff is knowledgeable about the food and drink offered and is always professional and fun... I should know, I tend bar there Thursday and Saturday nights! Take all the negative reviews with a grain of salt... chances are, the information you're getting is outdated and won't apply to the drastic change in leadership and professionalism. I wont use ""prominent DJ"" because it is used so loosely. To be a prominent DJ you must first hold a gig longer than a month in SA to be considered a DJ. There are many bar owners that will attest to the unprofessionalism of this ""prominent DJ"" This bar is now a great place to sing Karoke without favoritism by ""prominent DJ's"", watch a game on TV and relax. Clean bar, with lots of new potential. more

I am a prominent DJ in this city and was called by the Manager to play 2 nights a week in this hole. I spent 5 hours of my time putting up paid advertising to boost my show. It was a slow night, needless to say. I cut them a break on my fee in hopes to build this place up for them. They told me don't worry about coming back next week, because they have a free DJ doing the shows now. BAD Business all the way around. Two police officers were posted outside for a good majority of the evening, and then the main event was the TABC coming in and writing a ticket to the GM for noise violations. This bar is smack dab in the middle of old people country and will never be a good venue for any kind of entertainment. Then again this is just my opinion. I wouldn't care either way. I just feel as if I was taken by these newbie bar owners. more

This bar is by far the worst I have ever seen. The manager is absolutely terrirble, and they only pay the staff when they have money to do so. If the manager didn't get drunk all night ""on the house"" to include her ""boyfriend for the night"" maybe they wouldn't be such a broke bar and maybe be able to pay their employees. To top it off, some punk kid who has worked their only a few months and was caught stealing money from the bar was put in charge of someone who not only worked their longer, but also has 8 years experience with bartending. The manager is absolutely disgusting, the bar owners are even worse, and the way they treat their good employees is complete garbage. more

The place is very clean. The lady bartender ""Pepper"" couldn't have been nicer and more attentive. The day crowd consisted of a lot of retired military and golfers. My kind of crowd. Music was good and not too loud. I would recommend this place if you want great day prices and a great clean safe place to relax to. \r At shift change around 6pm or 7pm get ready for a much younger crowd. i've been to every bar in north san antonio and this is easily one of the worst. enough for me to create an account on this site solely to write a review for it. when you walk in, every single person in the bar (like 20) will turn and look at you, this shows how bored everybody is. it's one of those places where if you're a regular it could be fun, which i can appreciate, but the negatives outweigh the positives still. the fact it is named after a german soldier and has the iron cross plastered on the front makes me wonder about it's intentions, but i understood as soon as i walked in. every single person there was white (i'm white so i have no problem with that, but my mexican friend said it felt weird) which is a near impossible feat to pull off in san antonio. the worst part of this is for the 30 minutes we were there (we sipped a beer and took a shot each while playing darts), the ONLY music that was played on the jukebox was gangster rap. not even hip hop, or club music, or regular rap, just GANGSTER rap. it was a sad, sad joke filled with self conflictions. another annoying aspect, was that one of the bartenders was a guy (yeah, one of those places). the only reason i give this hole-in-the-wall 2 stars instead of 1 is because the female bartender had great cleavage and was very cordial and talkative. prices are average, not bad but not great. The Baron ROCKS!! If you're looking for a new place to pop in and have a drink it's well worth checking out the Baron. The recent renovations make for a comfortable atmosphere but you'd never expect to get out of such a nice bar with so little out of pocket.
