3 strikes and they are out. 9/8/2009

We had been disappointed on two other occasions with cold food, poor/slow service, missing/wrong items delivered to our table. My husband and I thought we would give Tricia's a third shot....a mistake....\r \r First drinks and appetizer was delivered quickly and appetizer was decent, though a bit too cheesy (Bermuda Triangles). It then took 30 minutes after we finished our appetizer for our food to appear - wrong items were on my plate - waited another 10 minutes and entree was cold while my husband sat and waited patiently to eat his. When the correct plate was dumped off we were asked (at this point - we're into over an hour now at the restaurant) if we would like a second drink. Our answer: Yes, of course, we would like something to drink with dinner. Waitress never came back to ask how our food was and surprise, never delivered our drinks! When we finally caught her eye 25 minutes later we asked for the check and got an ""Oops I never brought your drinks."" No kidding. Not even an apology. We quickly paid and will never try this place again.\r \r I LOVE the Caribbean, love Key West and think the concept and atmosphere of this place are fantastic. My husband and I are boaters and visit Jamestown frequently. It is sad that the staff isn't better trained or at the very least friendlier and more apologetic for the multiple ""oops"" we've had at this place. I used to waitress years ago and this staff needs some help.\r \r Go to Jamestown Oyster Bar next door- we will from now on!\r \r Pros: Nice atmosphere and concept. Cons: Food, service - poor. more

A fantastic surprise. 8/3/2007

To think, I lived on the tiny island of Jamestown for over a year and never went to Tricia's Tropigrille even once. I was stunned by the quality of the food and the prices are just amazing. While the prices aren't down as low as, say, TGI Friday's or Olive Garden, they're as close as I've ever seen in a place with such delicious food. Atmosphere is totally unique. Lots of little touches make you feel tropical, and on a hot summer night the illusion is convincing enough. The pillow-strewn upstairs lounge feels more like some hookah bar, though. It's an experience, I'll tell you that much. The outside tables is where it's at. As night falls, it can get problematic if the wind is moving at a decent pace. The mosquitoes can eat you alive. Service was fast and friendly. Not very professional, but a relaxed atmosphere is a nice break from the professionalism of Providence eateries. The drinks are enormous and deliciously like candy, being loaded with fruity flavors. Appetizers are so large as to constitute meals unto themselves. The conch stuffies are the biggest I've ever seen... and you get TWO of them. Oh, and by the way, they're also fantastic. The mixed grille gives you a wide taste (for only $20), and fun entrees like Chicken and ""Barnacles,"" and the Hawaii Five-O never fail to satisfy. A few gaffs include a bean dip served cold, pizza that seems totally out of place, and comparatively bland quesadillas. Closing touches are sure to entertain, including the dessert ""message in a bottle."" It literally is a message in a bottle. The dessert menu comes out rolled into a sand-filled beer bottle. Desserts are simple, but cheap-cheap-cheap and sinfully good in their simplicity. The Chocolate Treasure and Chocolate Chip Wreck are ooie-gooie, warm, large, and scream to be eaten. Tricia's Tropigrille offers flavors like nowhere else in Rhode Island for prices to make you smile. It's definitely worth a look. Pros: Excellent food, good service, and cheap as all get-out. Cons: Some menu items are sub-par, service can be slow on busy days. more

Nice atmosphere, overpriced food 8/3/2007

I've been to Tricia's twice and have been less than wowed on both occasions. The outdoor patio is very nice, and their specialty cocktails are tasty. However, for the price, I thought the food was a little disappointing. The service was a little disappointing as well. My boyfriend, who is not a seafood eater, asked if he could substitute the shrimp in his mixed grill plate for something else (ie. more ribs or chicken) and the waitress just flat out said no. I can understand them saying, ""I have to charge you extra"", and that would have been fine. But no? You physically cannot substitute three shrimp for an extra rib? If I am spending $22 on an entree, I feel like things like this should be accommodated. Other restaurants have always done so without issue. \r \r Like I said, sitting on the patio is nice, and I'd consider going to the Tiki Bar for a drink, but I don't think I'd eat there again. There are better, more reasonably priced restaurants in town with better service. Pros: Outdoor seating Cons: Pricy entrees, inflexible staff more
