All I wanted to know was if they could get a keyboard that was in their catalogue. I was kept holding on my cellphone for 10 minutes and eventually gave up. The cost of the call was nearing the cost of the keyboard...... more

Their Customer Service is terrible! My husband received a bass amplifier as a gift from his mother for this birthday. When he went to play he found the qualit of the item to be sub-par. The speaker itself had good quality however the casing rattled especially at lower pitched notes . When my husband called to inquire about returning the item he received the absolute worst customer service I have ever witnessed! He was on hold for 10 min, funny enough, listening to a prerecorded message about how wonderful their service is. When he final talked with a customer service rep. she was rude and less then helpful. For 20 full minutes she refused to allow him to return the item that is not working properly. Now my husband doesn't get angry at much, but this was his limit! He never raised his voice; rather calmly said how angry he is and that this type of service is not acceptable. Eventually they decided to send him shipping label to return the item after he explained multiple time that it should not be the customers financial responsibility to ship back an item that does not work properly. I would think twice before choosing Sam Ash! more

It's really a hit or miss there. I've bought drum gear there once and it was nice. As for guitars..... its REALLY hit or miss. Sometimes they literally have the most helpful people I've met. However, they also have greedy little 20-year-olds who just want your sale. If you get the former all the time, I'd give it 5 stars. As for selection, its also very good more

Good service 12/31/2011

I usually dont write reviews but a lot of people are trashing a good store. I have been shopping there since I was 14 I am now 26. Recently I needed my guitar set up for a big show coming up and they rushed me to the top of the list so I would have it in time. I also bought a guitar there took it home and once I plugged it into my Mesa didnt really like the sound of the guitar, they took it back no questions asked and marked it as a used item so it wouldnt get sold as new which some stores dont do. Whenever I go in there regardless of how long its been the guys in the guitar department always remember me and ask me how my equipment is holding up and they actually remember the brands I use. I also call in a lot and have them special order things for me and its always right and on time. Cons: They dont always carry a lot of high end amps so I usually have to take my own stuff in there to test things out before buying them. Yes they will let you do that, just call ahead. Everyone thinks they should be waited on at the drop of a hat when there are 30 other people in the store, be realistic. As far as the comment below about them thinking they know Van Halen, lots of musicians do Clinics at Sam Ash's including Van Halen so they just might know him. :) more

the worst music store ive ever been in, where to start!\r assuming they have what your looking for??? it took 90 minutes for a employee to tell me if they even stocked a pedal i was looking for....they dont carry mesa or anyother high end amp other than marshall, clueless employees.....i cringe everytime i have to go in there just to buy strings,I only go there because its close to where i live...awful store, piss awful....cant belive its still in business more

Horrible service 1/15/2010

Do Not go to this store if you value your sanity. This store lacks what most musicians need. The people who work there are not as knowledgible as they should be. I called up to see if they had predrilled tuning pegs for a full size violin. They said yes, so I went down to pick some up. Turns out they didn't. I ordered some and they said a week. A week turned into a month of calling them up and getting a response that there was something wrong with their distributer. ""They"" finally came in and the were the wrong size pegs. This was AFTER I brought the original pegs in the first time to compare what they had. I have a german violin with no damage to the tuning holes. It has been well kept, and have been playing for years. They are not that hard to replace. The tuning pegs that I received ends were as big and the ""bigger"" hole on the violin, which means I wouldve had to ream the violin to the point that if the hole ever got any bigger I wouldv'e had to either get a new one or major worl. All and all I would like to thank the store for wasting my time. Now I have to go back and return them and also am returning the strings and bow I bought too. At a time people do not have the money to invest in music and all the arts are suffering, you would think that a larger chain store such as this would take more pride. As for their guitar and bass selection, which I also play both. It sucks, and I more expensive then guitar center. GC has better service, selection, and knowledgible staff that do not have big heads on their shoulders. And the way that they talk in sam ash you would think that they know van halen personally. They should stick with guitar hero. more
