After a year with the office, although I was very happy with Dr. Paranyuk, I will not be going back because I am so disgusted with the utter lack of communication between the doctor's office and central billing office regarding patient financial issues.
I am a student and wanted the HPV series but couldn't afford to pay for it all out of pocket. I asked the doctor's office to check my coverage and they told me I was covered 80%. So I got two vaccinations and paid $50 for each. My insurance company ended up denying the claim for the shots after all, but I didn't find out until I got a bill from the central billing office for the full price of the first vaccination, which was over $150. I called the billing office to ask about it and the associate I spoke to on the phone was incredibly impolite. She was rude enough to tell me that it was my job to check my coverage, so that I wasn't covered was my problem. Needless to say, I hung up on her.
After speaking with the doctor's office and working with them, I am receiving some reimbursement; instead of owing over $300 for the first two vaccinations I have already received, I'll owe just over $100. However, I have received two very threatening letters from the central billing office -- one of which came AFTER I called the doctor's office to make sure they had been in touch with the central billing office about the resolution to my issue, and they told me yes -- which tell me that they will be getting their lawyer after me if I don't pay the incorrect balance of over $300.
From start to finish, this ordeal has been stressful and acrobatic. I have made so many phone calls and spent so much time working on this to try to owe as little as possible, and in the end I have two of three HPV shots and am trying to figure out a way to get the third affordably. Once I have this third vaccination I will never be speaking to or seeing anyone in that office again.
