Dangerous Indeed 6/6/2011

I have to second IDPA's observations about Bullseye's instructors. They are dangerous indeed. Last year I attended their NRA PPOH course. The in-house NRA training counselor teaching the course instructed two students shooting 1911 type pistols to manually lower the hammer on the pistol's loaded chamber and then holster them in this condition, something that the late Col. Jeff Cooper referred to as 'condition two.' This practice is extremely dangerous since the 1911 type pistols do not have a decocking device, regardless whether they are series 70 or 80 versions. Furthermore, most, if not all manufacturers of this type of pistols explicitly warn against this practice and so does the NRA. Well, a negligent discharge did indeed occur on the range, but luckily no one was hurt. The training counselor would not allow any discussion about this issue and proudly proclaimed: ""That's why he pointed downrange,"" when in fact the negligent discharge was caused by his faulty instruction and should not have occurred in the first place. It was then, after the negligent discharge, that one of his assistant instructors stepped in and demonstrated how to decock a 1911 type pistol, yet still ignoring the fact that this practice is not to be done on a loaded chamber as outlined in all 1911 type user's manuals. The training counselor was entirely unable to provide any explanation or insight why he was instructing those two students to comply with his dangerous instructions, much more holster their pistols in this dangerous condition other than ""that's why they are pointing downrange."" With a series 70, you now have a loaded pistol pointed at your leg without anything disabling the firing pin! In class, he also vacillated students that attended his previous classes for faulty safety practices; yet the training counselor is evidently not an authority in firearms safety and had no room to talk. I will never take a class there again; you would be safer in downtown Baghdad. more

Dangerous Condition in Class 5/16/2011

While the little bald guy is referred to as rude, his antics can provide for some comic relief depending on your mood. Pat is very helpful and professional, but their instructor, Bill Martin is an outright lunatic! Bill claims to teach everything according to NRA guidelines, but that is a far cry from the facts. Some of his instructions are inherently dangerous and he will not allow for any dialogue, but instead answering with a very arrogant non sequitur response. Bill is not knowledgeable at all and only possesses a rote level of understanding. It is nothing less than a miracle that no accident has occurred there yet. One quick sample of his arrogance: the NRA strictly prohibits live ammo in the classroom under any circumstance and for anyone with absolutely no exception. Bill parades into the classroom with a loaded pistol on his hip and keeps it on for the duration of the class period. However, he will make certain that YOUR gun and ammo is either in your vehicle or locked up under HIS control because it is the NRA's rules. more

Take it with a grain of salt 2/7/2011

Bullseye, as a facility, is the best indoor range in the city. It's well lit, well maintained and it's the only one in the city that has range officers that pay any attention to the shooters, which is important for safety. Be advised, they treat everyone equally...like you're a unsafe semi-idiot...at least until you've proven you're not after multiple visits. The sad fact is that most shooters who come there have little to no training, are unsafe and don't pay much attention to the rules...and quickly prove they deserve the treatment. The policy is a bit unfriendly to first timers or infrequent shooters, but considering the place is fairly well packed most days regardless of the weather, it seems to work for them. I feel safer shooting there than Gun Gallery or Gateway, both of which I have friends working at, and I think they're worthy of my business because of it. They are, however, an excellent place to for training and their instructors are professional and knowledgeable. more

Great place NOT TO GO 5/5/2009

This place would be a great place to use my firearms because its close to where I live, instead I drive 15 miles out of my way to another place because these guys are unprofessional and have no customer service skills. Pros: Have public restrooms. Cons: Customer service, dirty, unprofessional. more
