Always Receive Great Care! 2/10/2012

I have been coming to Buffalo Small Animal Hospital since I was a child. I grew up watching my family pets receive excellent care here so I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. When my older lab was having issues Dr. Josh helped me thoroughly understand the diagnosis so I was able to help him properly. He and his tech's care and compassion helped get me through the office visits. I cant thank the team over at BSA enough. more

Genuinely Concerned, Encouraging and Friendly 1/16/2012

I want to thank BSA for the wonderful care they provided for my 16 year senior cat. He was acting a bit strange and they arranged for him to come in next day for a checkup. Everyone was so as I waited just a short time to see Dr. Josh, the best Vet I have ever experienced. As busy as it seemed in there he spent a generous amount of time going over the care of a senior cat. Important little things like water everywhere and can food as much as he wants to make his last years comfortable and happy. A few weeks past I called again as he was staring into bowl and moving very slowly, their assistance was most appreciated as we realized he must have had a stroke and eventually stopped eating. With their direction we kept him comfortable and he gently passed on. Again Buffalo Small Animal Hospital was there with encouragement, their thoughtful card reminded us he had a great life with the love and warmth in our home. We hope to see them again when we add a new pet to our home. more

HORRIBLE NASTY PEOPLE!!! 9/30/2011

These are the nastiest people I have ever met. They turn away emergency cases unless you have at least $1,000 in cash when you walk in the door! Their Office manager is NASTY and rude to every caller and visitor! We had a non-profit fund raiser for a pup that was severely injured when struck by a car. The office manager sent back the donations to the senders! She refused to accept anything other than a credit card! Cashiers checks, money orders, personal checks or even cash or PayPal was thrown back in everybody's faces! She said she could care less about a *F****** dog! The first bill was $2,000 to fix the pup but she said since 3we had a fund raiser going, she charged $3,000 for the treatment. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! more

First appointment 7/2/2010

This will be my dog's first visit. He has had a history of allergies and various treatments for approximately 3 years. He also received injuries from fetching a ball to his cruciate ligament 2 years ago. This problem seemed to be intermittant, but is now lingering and something has to be done. I am hoping this small animal hospital will be the conclusion to my dogs problems. So far the appointment is quick. Wish us luck. more

Excellent care 4/14/2010

I have always received excellent care from the doctors at Buffalo Small, which I have never felt was overpriced or unnecessary. My older dog had developed bladder stones and they caught it right away based simply upon a telephone call I placed to the office. Turns out when I brought my dog in for an x ray, they were right and were able to put him on medications so he didn't need surgery. On another occasion my younger puppy swallowed something that didn't sit well on her stomach and began shaking and wheezing. They did x rays (at my request) and gave her antibiotics and she turned out fine. They also took her last minute that day on an emergency basis without charging extra. I dont know what this other woman is saying about them not using antibiotics when they spay, my dog was spayed there last year and they used antibiotics and put her on pain meds (something that the owner had to choose, which I'm sure some do not). I love the hours, including Saturday hours, and the staff has more

saved my puppy without surgery. 11/10/2009

After just being seen at my usual vet with my six month old boxer he stopped eating and started vomiting. I was told he probably had a stomach bug and didn't need to be seen. The staff at buffalo animal hospital got us in right away. After an xray they said they could go to surgery, but first they treated him with IV fluids. The next day they called saying the sock passed without surgery. more

Great Care 8/29/2009

Outstanding service at a reasonable cost. The staff is courteous and helpful. Both the doctors that I have seen are very professional and knowledgeable, although the male doctor seems better with dogs and the female seems better with cats. (DO NOT take that as a bad comment, they're both great) more

Long time customer but very disappointed at last contact 11/30/2008

After many years ( 36! ) of my pets receiving very good and compassionate care by this practice I hate to rate my last contact as barely satisfactory but I feel I must be honest. Our old and much loved late cat had been frequently treated there for the past 18 months or so for metastatic lymphoma with probable kidney involvement and I admit I probably should have relieved him of his discomfort weeks before, but I couldn't let go. He did rally for a brief period before he escaped from the house a couple of weeks ago and went missing for about 12 hours until located about a mile from home by a wonderful gentleman and returned( kitty always wore a collar w/ tag) . He failed almost immediately after this misadventure. I brought him to the vet a day after this incident and it was obvious he was in serious distress. He was re-hydrated and I was given antibiotic and a systemic flea Rx to dose him ( they discovered fleas) and I did follow the vet's advice against my better judgement: he was more

Reasonable and Accurate 10/15/2008

My dog has chronic (expensive) allergies. Other vets have misdiagnosed him. We moved to Buffalo Small Animal after moving to the city and have been very happy. Some of the vets (a younger woman and anolder foreign woman) are snippy but one (the guy) has been very helpful. Much less expensive than my last vets. I've had a good experience and would recommend Dr. B to others. more

Reckless and incompetent 6/13/2008

I took my first dog there for spaying, after they operated on my dog they informed me that they did not use antibiotics because their practice is so sterile. Within the week she was hospitalized, at another vet, for pneumonia. I was given information that was gravely wrong stating that she might develop a cough but that it was normal. Thankfully I called a better vet who treated her and she has made a full recovery. But to endanger my pet with what I feel are unsafe practices, and to not tell me of the decision until after the surgery is only describable as reckless and incompetent. To exacerbate the situation, by telling me to ignore her symptoms is unconscionable. Please never take your pet there if you can help it. They in my opinion endanger your pet while the pet is in their care and worsen the care by telling you to ignore what could be life threatening symptoms. Based on the other comments left here my experience is not unique, it doesn't even seem to be in the minority of exper more

Life savers 2/10/2008

My 2 puppies recently got into some of my medication and immediately fell into comas. Had it not been for Dr Wagner and the staff at Buffalo Small Animal Hospital, they would not have made it through. I am forever greatful for all they did to save Sonny and Sophia. more

Bad Service 5/8/2007

Reasonably priced but service was terrible. In four visits:\r (a) they misbilled me each time (including for services I didn't use)\r (b) they made mistakes in my dog's records that I caught\r (c) they accidentally gave my dog two rabies shots in a month (once without my permission when she was being spayed) and then treated this as if it were no big deal, and \r (c) the spaying led to complications.\r I didn't have a visit where there weren't problems. After those experiences, I switched and am much happier. It'sjust not worth the lower cost. more

Great loving care 4/23/2007

My 12 year old terrier has been coming here since he was a puppy. Last year he became violently ill after hours and had to go to the emergency overnight place on Kensington near Main. $700 later, after X Rays, etc. they said he would be OK after he had a BM. I then brought him to Buffalo Small Animal where it turned out he had swallowed a foreign object and needed an immediate operation. He almost died, but thanks to Dr. B. - he had a complete recovery. They have always been most thorough, professional and caring. more

NO THANKS 2/15/2007

We had been coming here for years, and since our pets were realatively healthy, we continued to come out of convenience in spite of the over officious office help, merry go round of vets, pushing unnecessary services. That is until misdiagnosed and would have killed one of our pets had we not abandoned treatment and switched Vets. Beware: rigid, insensitive, impersonal and sometimes just wrong. more

not bad 6/29/2006

When my friend got a new puppy we brought him here. He liked it because it was cheaper than some of the other places, but myself having gone to many other vets found the service to be good, but not as good as some others. He still goes here, but I usually spend a little more money going someplace where I know the people better. more

  • Buffalo Small Animal Hospital opened its doors over 100 years ago to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare and advice for our city's animals. Due to the popularity of pets as household companions, the hospital went through many changes to accommodate our clients' needs. As the horse stalls turned into exam rooms and the hay lofts turned into boarding facilities, we developed our practice to serve Buffalo's beloved dogs and cats.
