Best

My whole family loves Buca. Moving to Utah from the east coast - there are not too many places that serve good Italian food. Buca is great. Their caesar salad and chicken marsa...

Homestyle Fun 2/21/2003

I love Buca di Beppo, it is just like going to my friend's house and having her Sicilian mother cook for me. The food is excellent and the portions are huge. It is also just a fun place to be. It is informal dining, where you just enjoy the food. Pros: Serving Size, Good Food, Fun Cons: Semi expensive more

Big Big and Bigger 1/16/2003

This is a chain, but you wouldn't know it. It seems like an old time Boston Italian American joint. There is nothing fancy and the portions are great big Southern Italian portions. It is what it is and even if the dish is not as great as your favorite hangout, the food is solid, decent tasting and BIG. The service is unobtrusive and decent. I was surprised that it was not packed on a weekend night, but I heard someone tell another that their prices were high, Pros: Big portions, familiar flavors, good service more

Cheap on Eats! 1/3/2003

I don't see how this one can fit in the cheap eats category, It was fairly good food and a fun atmosphere but was not worth what we paid for it. I like the family style ordering arrangements but is that for a family of two? For over $20.00 a person in our group of 7 modest eaters we still were not fully satisfied with our meal. Is that considered cheap? Pros: Fun Servers, Happy atmosphere, Interactive Cons: Not enough variety, $$$$ for little food more

No more chains 1/2/2003

I don't really like chains at all, and especially not this one. Mediocre at best - but great big glasses of wine are a plus, and perhaps after a few, anything would taste great. Pros: cool atmosphere, cheap, big wine Cons: bad food, always crowded, chain more

Food Obscxenity 12/20/2002

The food is good, but they try to bowl you over with the amount of food. If you are a Chuck-a-Rama fan or if you've been starving in the desert for a month this might be attractive, otherwise it is an obscenity! You can't possibly eat the amount put in front of you which is simply a complete waste for which you pay dearly! The food is not cheap here! Ambience is the "Godfather" family dining room... Order for one if you are a party of two or three! You are paying for at least twice what you can possibly eat. I would have been happier paying a lower price for more reasonable portions! I am not a fan of the "oh god, I can hardly move I'm so full feeling." Service is attentive for the purpose of pushing more food than you need! You can only eat so much! Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: Quantity too high, Price too high more

Bulk food. 12/16/2002

Get some wine glasses! 12/12/2002

Only in Salt Lake - a family style pasta house! Pros: Food was good, servers were pleasant Cons: No wine glasses more

Good idea, needs improvement 12/6/2002

Went there for family party. Sat in the "Pope" room. The decorations were cool. Bread and salad were good. Of the 3 entrees that our group ordered, the Chicken Cacciatore was excellent, Spaghetti and Meatballs, the meatballs were good, but the sauce is nothing special, and the Veal Marsala, the veal was rubbery and the sauce was too sweet. The tiramisu was very rich, good flavor, though too much rum or brandy in it. Disappointed in the cannolis, over sweet fortune cookies. Good idea, food needs some improvement though. Pros: Good parking, Great decor, Good atmosphere Cons: food mediocre, mediocre service, overpriced drinks more

NOISY BUT FUN! 11/14/2002

Buca di Beppo is a great place to go in a large group. It can be quite noisy sometimes but the food is fabulous and comes in family sized portions so be hungry! Wines are really overpriced but the best thing about this place is the kitchy-ness and the fun. Bring lots of friends and a large appetite. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR A ROMANTIC DATE. Too much food and not enough quiet for a good conversation or those longing gazes. more

great 10/26/2002

Fun, exiting atmosphere with great well priced food. Pros: fun more

Best Buca 10/25/2002

I love everything about Buca's. The pictures keep you entertained and their Green Beans are the BEST! more

True Garlic Breath. 10/19/2002

The atmosphere of this restaurant is really great. They take you on a tour of the kitchen and even offer you their "kitchen" table. Each room from the restrooms to the Pope's room are uniquely decorated and add to the whole Italian experience. The food is wonderful, perfect for big families and groups. Service is also wonderful, the servers seem to never stop smiling. They also show you the different meals as they bring them out to other tables. Buca di Beppo has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants. Pros: Large family meals, Fun environment, Inexpensive Cons: Few choices for coupl more

I love this place!!!! 10/3/2002

I love the atmosphere as well as the food. What a fun place. Everything I have tried has been excellent. I would have to rate it a 1st place! more

Awesome! 10/2/2002

What a unique restaurant and what fabulous food! I have eaten here four times now and have never had a bad meal, or even a bad dish. The salads are incredible, the main dishes are delectable, and the deserts are to die for. The only draw back is the "family" dining. It can get awkward to order one or two dished for everyone, especially if you are dining with a picky eater. But it's fun if you don't mind that. I highly recommend! Pros: Good food, large portions, fun atmosphere Cons: Only family dining, Can get busy more

To die there 9/23/2002

My wife and went to buca with high hopes. the first thing we see is a waiter spilling a large soft drink into a customers lap. The only thing the waiter offered to compensate the patron was to pay for his soda! more

Disappointed!!! 9/17/2002

I was really excited to try Buca because I had heard alot of good things. I planned a birthday party of 20+ people. Well, out of all 20 of us, 0 will return. I cook better Italian food at home. The service was terrible. They gave us 1 server for our entire party. The food was tasteless. We asked to get the kids dish served first and that was the LAST dish that we got. The one GOOD thing about Buca was that they took one of the dishes off of our bill because only 1 person even tried it. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Pros: Great location, OK prices, good variety Cons: poor service, tasteless food more

Buca scores with high school students 9/9/2002

Buca had an excellent atomsphere and a great sense of tradition. I was seated promtly, the decor was excellent and unique, the food was authentic italian cuizine (and the portions were ridiculously gigantic!). Definetely a recommendation for dates, formal dances, and banquets/parties. Pros: giant portions, fun italian decor Cons: no kids menu more

one word...suprising! 8/30/2002

Wow what a bold place! I can't believe the owners had the courage to try something like this is Utah. I'll tell you what though...it sure was a hit for me and my family. The food, atmosphere, everything was just amazing. Walking through the kitchen and talking with the chefs? Where else would let you do that? Around every corner was something new and incredible. Thanks guys, I'll be back! more

Dessert with the Pope? 8/30/2002

Not sure if I would have chosen Buca for the best dessert. If I am eating a bowl of ice cream while staring at the Popes head, I may have to reconsider my options... more

Grow up SLC 8/29/2002

IF you like way to much Garlic, crying kids, and terrible food this is a great place for you! No wonder SL dosen't have many really good places if people rate this place that high more

  • In Short
Homesick for your mother's Italian cooking? Grab your appetite and head to this restaurant, where the friendly wait staff will serve up portions of Colosseum-esque proportions, like spaghetti and meatballs loaded with savory tomato sauce and lots of pungent garlic. Dishes center on Southern Italian immigrant fare, and are meant to be shared family-style with a large goblet of wine-to enhance the taste, of course. The ornate décor with walls covered in vintage photos evokes a warm homey feel that welcomes customers to dine among the other families and loyal customers. Buon Appetito!
