My Experience 1/27/2012

My own experience with Toth has been very different from the ""glowing"" review posted below. 5 years ago, I was thinking about an Asian blepharoplasty to try and get the ""double eyelid crease"" as well as slightly rejuvenating my eyes. I came upon Toth from ""glowing"" reviews such as the one below (which I have to to believe to come from either Toth himself or his staff, as I find it hard to believe that a surgeon can produce such low quality work as in my case and do godly work in another). Anyway, I went for a consultation with Toth and he seemed nice enough at the consulation. Looking back now, there were definitely red flags that I should have caught, such as: 1) His trying to brag about the fact that he wrote a craniofacial book and trying to correlate this with plastic surgery of the eyes, which is a different ballgame, 2) His showing of the pictures of his Asian eyelid surgery, all of which look very exaggerated and not all that impressive, and 3) His refusal to acknolwedge any sort of possible complications in the procedure. Being young and impressionable at the time, I bought into his apparent bonhommie and underwent the procedure. It was hell. First of all, Toth scheduled my surgery about 4 hours before he was supposed to fly out of the country for a ""conference,"" and during my fragmented memory of the surgery (I was under twilight sedation), I can recall that he was very rushed in his work. Also, I recalled that he was bantering very unprofessionally with his staff, even cracking sex jokes. After having the surgery, I followed all of the instructions for post-op convalescence. Almost immediately I could see that there was something horribly wrong: One of the eyes' crease was so high and the other one so low such that there is a huge discrepancy (probably about 8 mm according to the surgeon who subsequently corrected the problem). At first I chalked it up to the swelling, but as weeks turned into months the situation remained the same. The difference was obvious even by just looking at the incisional crease height. What's worse, so much skin had been removed from each eye that I cannot close fully at night. As the results were so disappointing and traumatizing, I tried to talk to Toth but he started becoming very visibly nervous and apprehensive to see me. In one meeting, after discussing the problem and showing him his ""work,"" he was literally standing at the door throughout the appt ready to bolt at the first chance. He never apologized or offered a plan to correct the problem, and being a bit wiser after the experience, I resolved to not let him touch my eyes again and went to a specialized, dedicated bleph surgeon to correct the problem. After two additional surgeries (one on each eye, one of these being a graft to help the eye to close), I finally achieved a passable result from the horrendous state I was in. I have finally come out of the experience and put it behind me, but from time to time I still find the need to share my experiences with potential Toth patients. The guy may be able to do some good work from time to time, but from my own experience I simply cannot imagine him as this ""superb"" surgeon that some (I think) bogus reviewers make him out to be, or the ""surgeon that other surgeons go to."" The fact that Toth's office leaked info to the press about how he supposedly operated on the ex-Prime Minister of Italy goes to show how the man is a glory hound with little respect for his patient's privacy. Therefore, I simply cannot recommend him to anybody, and I sincerely caution anyone from buying into potentially bogus positive reviews like I did. The truth is much more valuable and less glamorous sometimes. more

Excellent surgeon 7/1/2011

When I was around 37 years old and terribly embarrassed by the puffy bags under my eyes, a plastic surgery nurse told me that Dr. Bryant Toth was the ""up and coming star"" among San Francisco plastic surgeons. Based upon her recommendation, I had Dr. Toth perform the eye surgery and was totally delighted with the results. As I approached 50, I once again felt that I appeared to be much older than I was, so I returned to Dr. Toth, this time for a face lift. The results were beautiful and totally natural looking. Indeed, over the years I have had so many laughs when, after listening to friends say that they can always spot a face lift, I would confide that I too had had a face lift. The looks and remarks are always the same: ""But you have always looked like yourself. You have never looked as though you had a lift."" I would explain that a good face lift is not one that you can spot. It's one that leaves the person looking like him or her self, with several years of aging removed. I loved that face lift so much that I never thought I would ever want any other plastic surgery done. However, four days ago, at age 64, I returned to Dr. Toth's office once again. This time, he did a face lift, neck lift, upper eyelid surgery, and fat injections into my cheeks. The pain and bruising have been minimal. My cheeks are swollen but I was told today, after the stitches were removed, that most of the swelling will be gone in about a week. The vertical folds that had developed alongside my nose and mouth and the wrinkles that had formed on my cheeks are gone. Am I happy? You bet I am. Do I expect my friends will ask me if I have had a face lift? Absolutely not. Will this be my last visit to Dr. Toth? Surely. But ask me again when I am 80. more

Best plastic surgeon ever 8/19/2009

Dr. Toth has been my plastic surgeon since 1984 and there is not another person in this world that I would allow to touch my face. Over the years, he has done an eye lift, a face lift, implants, tummy tuck, lipo, and chemical peel. I have been delighted with every operation he has performed. I also would note that he has had the same staff during this period, who all have told me that they stay with him because he is such a kind, enjoyable person to work with. I cannot recommend him highly enough. more

HE is amazing, and so is his staff. I would reccommend him to everyone! He always answers all my questions and says he won't do anything until I am absolutely sure of what I want. His entire office is friendly and comfortable. more

The ""Other Side"" of Toth 11/14/2007

I must have met the ""Mr. Hyde"" of the previous review before me, because my experience with this man is nothing short of an astounding disaster. The guy is a craniofacial surgeon, but evidently tries to get his hands in the money of plastic surgery--but working with skeletal structures is a very different thing than soft tissues. Had a nose primary done by Toth, and ended up having three subsequent revisions to correct his work--the last finally by Dean Toriumi, who is at least a true expert (not one by lip service). In the end, avoid this guy at all costs: look past his superficial bonhommie, as he just wants to get his hands on your money and use you as practice so that one day (not!) he might actually be competent at practicing plastic surgical work. Oh, and his staff is a joke as well. Repeatedly marked down the wrong time and day in their calendar; even on my day of surgery, when my surgery was scheduled for noon, they had it down at one and had to mad scramble to set up their small and pathetic ""surgical suite"" to have Toth, due to leave town at 3:00, run in chewing breathmint to cover up his bad breath to do surgery on me. Should have caught on all of these unprofessional signs, but ended up suffering for blind faith.\r \r Do not repeat my mistake.\r \r I should also point out that I have noticed that either Toth himself or his staff spams review pages with clearly bogus reviews like the one above and below. Gives no details whatsoever and is basically an advertisement. Beware of this guy. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Everything more
