Brookside Manor Apartments

Do not rent from these people!!! I lived in Brookside Apartments for a year and a half. Over the summer our apartment flooded due to the air conditioner drain being covered up by the hot water heater. It had been placed over the drain by the maintenance man when the hot water heater had stopped working. Long story short the entire apartment had water damage on the 'hardwood' floors. Every single room in the apartment had some part of the flooring that had to replaced. A year after moving out of Brookside, I find on my credit report that I have a balance that has been sent to collections for $62 from Brookside Apartments. I was charged $110 for cleaning the floor that had to be replaced!!! Not only this I was never made aware of any balance that was due. I find out from Brookside that my account was sent to collections 12 days after my moving out. The office manager told me this was their standard procedure. If there is any balance what so ever, it is automatically sent to collections. They do not notify you or your co signer they intend to do this. They do not inform you or co signer that there is a balance owing giving you a chance to contest the move out charges or pay them. They simply send it to collections. Her exact words were ""not our problem. If there is a balance we send to collections. We do not tell you about the balance. You find out from the collection agency or from your credit report."" The office manager does not know if this information is in your lease and has refused to send me a copy of my lease or allow my co signer to come to the office and get a copy of the lease, as I have graduated from SIU and no longer live In the area. There are crooks and scam artist. If you value your credit do not rent from them. Horrible customer service!!! more

As a parent of a student, I have found Brookside to be a nice place to stay. It seems to be safe and in a good location. As it might be a little outdated, the grounds are well kept, the apartments are cleaned and painted before a new student moves in and the office staff is nice and friendly. The halls were a little messy, but, everyone was moving in and out at the time. For the price, it was the best we found in the Carbondale area. I do not hesitate letting my student live there and think it will be a life experience. Thank you for being a home away from home. more
