Great big suburban Zoo 12/27/2005

Lincoln Park is a small zoo that you can cover without breaking a sweat. Brookfield is much larger and more commercial. It has fun rubber- wheeled trains that you can ride around so you don't tire yourself out if you don't feel like doing a lot of walking. Of course this place is not free either, like Lincoln Park. It is still worth the cost of admission; you and your kids will enjoy spending a couple of happy hours here on some sunny summer afternoon. Or for a real adventure, go in cold weather. It is open year round. It is your classic zoo experience. For some reason, as I am remembering it now, I am thinking of the giraffes with their long tongues, grabbing forbidden snacks. http://www.brookfieldzoo.org/ more

Fun for the whole family 9/22/2005

Brookfield Zoo is a great way to enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Children and adults of all ages will enjoy the nice atmosphere and many animals that are out on exhibit. If you think you will go more than once a year then it is well worth it to get a membership and amble parking is included. The other zoo in the Chicagoland area is Lincoln Park Zoo. In contrast, Lincoln Park Zoo has limited parking and the zoo is free but there is not many animals out for the children to see. Brookfield Zoo also has a Dolphin Show presentation for an additional small cost and many different themed events throughout the year. more

Great fun for the family 9/19/2005

Brookfield Zoo is slightly expensive if you're not a member, but membership is well worth the cost if you'll go more than once a year. The zoo itself is very large, with a wide variety of animals. The children's zoo is a lot of fun as well. They offer seasonal activities that are interesting for adults as well as kids. Definitely a must around the holidays to see the lights! more

Excellent Zoo with Nice Surroundings 9/2/2005

The Brookfield Zoo is one of two zoos in the Chicagoland region (Lincoln Park being the other one) and is the larger of the two. The selection of animals are wide and they attempt to replicate natural habitat surroundings as much as possible. The zoo is very nicely laid out with large park like settings in between various animal sections so it is very relaxing to walk around and enjoy some good family time. Admission is per person (and they accept cash only, no credit cards) so if you plan to go more than twice a year, I would highly recommend an annual pass. As with most parks the concessions are fairly pricey (and average for the most part) so you might want to consider bringing your own food and drinks. more

Let's go to the zoo 8/17/2005

Brookfield Zoo is one of two major zoos in the Chicago area. It's located just outside of the city and is easy to get to by most of the expressways. You will pay $8.00 to park there unless you are a member (in which case it is then free). Admission is $8/adult and $4/children & seniors. There are also extra charges in the zoo for things such as the dolphin show, zoo tram, and the two children's zoos. If you think you will go there at least twice a year, it is worth it to get a membership. The zoo has many different types of exhibits and most likely has your favorite animal. They have underwater viewing tanks for the dolphins, seals, and walruses. Always a big hit with the kids. You can bring in your own lunch or eat at one of the many eateries in the zoo. I personally find Brookfield Zoo to be more enjoyable to go to than the one in the city and it's easier to get to. more
