Broadway East Electrology

Over the past ten years I have been to three to five laser hair removal centers, signed contracts, spent thousands of dollars, (one time even had my face burned), yet I never saw the slightest reduction of hair. I finally decided old-fashioned electrolysis was the only sure system, so I went to Thailand for a ""marathon"" electrolysis session (which was promised to be done safely and comfortably by ""very experienced and well trained technicians""). I suffered through 7 hours of serious pain from two GIRLS (gabbing above me with foreign language indifference), only to end up with permanent skin damage (and almost full hair regrowth).\r \r For years I was self conscious, depressed and fearful of ever trying another treatment,, of any sort, Then I heard about Barbara... After years of waxing every week, I tried electrolysis. The first one I went to - in my NW neighborhood - had me come in every week and I felt like the hair was growing in just as fast and dark as when waxing. While I don't have a major facial hair issue, a small patch of hair that is coarse and starting to get blacker as I aged caused me a lot of anxiety. I asked my friend where she went and that is how I found Barbara. She is a miracle worker. She is knowledgable. She actually wants you to space out your appointments so you don't over treat. Last appointment I went 6 weeks between appointments, with just a few stray hairs. Her method doesn't hurt and I have even started working on my blonde softer hair. \r I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to find Barbara. I hope she never ever retires. After years of feeling self conscious about my chin, I can now start to feel self conscious about my greying hair, increase in girth and other lovely side affects of aging! :) Seriously - she is marvelous! more

Barbara is the best electrologist I have ever gone to, and I had gone to a lot! She has greatly reduced my hair problem over the course of the last year of regular treatments. She is extremely knowledgeable as well as an incredibly caring person. She is a pleasure to talk to during visits, and really knows what she is doing. I agree with other posters, that I have felt she should increase her charges, but she continues to charge much less than anyone else I have gone to, with exceptionally better results. If you have a hair problem that you are trying to deal with, Barbara is the electrologist to see! more

Having gone to other electrologists and used laser removal services I can assure you this is the best Electrologist in the NW. There is a reason Barbara has clientele from Alaska & Idaho come to visit her. From the moment you walk up the stairs of the beautiful & stately home fronting Broadway and enter the warm wooded foyer shared by an upscale eclectic clothing shop, masseuse & salon you are greeted by caring & hospitable faces. Upstairs Barbara welcomes one into what could be her parlor, there is an immediate sense of comfort, ease and professionalism. I noticed the coffee beans set out in a lovely Victorian saucer and the attention to detail one requires when accessing body care. Here there's pictures of family & there is the latest in technology. Her equipment and knowledge are state of the art. She will detail her procedures and what you can expect carefully. You will find her,like I have, one of the most genuine, serene and compassionate individuals I have ever met. She talks in terms of family, if you are one of her lucky clients, you will be too. After years of visiting other electrologists in the metro area, spending 100's of hard earned dollars, only to have the same areas of hair return month after month, I am SO VERY happy to have found Barbara. The same areas are trouble free now a year later after 2 (yes TWO) treatments. And here is the BEST PART: she is easily half the price of others. This has caused me to try and tip her (or even as unlikely as it seems, protest she needs to charge more) a thing she does not accept. I suppose that is because, like you will be, I am now family . After moving to Portland, OR two years ago, I was in search of an Electrologist to achieve some facial hair reduction that had started to recur after several years. I was very fortunate to find Barbara Failing at Broadway East Electrology on my first attempt and could not be more satisfied with my experience. I am of Indian descent and have always had a problem with excess face and body hair because of my genetics. I had gotten electrolysis in my teenage years and in my early twenties that was fairly effective but as I've entered my thirties, I have noticed some of the facial hair recurring. I have been going to Barbara for a little over a year anywhere from every 4-12 weeks depending on both of our schedules and I have noticed obvious hair reduction in this time period. Barbara begins each new client relationship with a free consultation in which she describes in great detail the process of electrolysis and answers all questions and concerns. She is extremely professional, always on time, considerate and very kind. Her office is clean and she practices sanitary technique without fail. She is very flexible with regard to client preferences and tries very hard to make her workplace a comfortable and accepting environment. Additionally, she is a very conscientious provider and her integrity and commitment to her profession are obvious from the first meeting with her. As a physician myself, I know how difficult it is to find the combination of great knowledge base, proper technique and great bedside manner in a health care provider and I have been very impressed with Barbara in all these regards. Finally, her rates are more reasonable than most providers in the greater Portland area. After a year of seeing another electrologist and having no hair reduction I was pretty frustrated. And it always seemed odd that the lady I was seeing would pull the hairs out as though she was tweezing them. After a year and no luck, I was completely surprised that after 2 sessions at Broadway East I had dramatic hair reduction, about 80%. Even after the first. Yay! I'm so glad i read the reviews here when I was choosing an electrologist! Everything everyone has said is true. I started a few months ago to clear some facial hair prior to my wedding and there has been sooo much improvement! No more stubble for me! Barbara has been truly amazing. I am recently relocated from Austin, TX and was looking for the perfect electrologist to continue my treatments. I found her at BROADWAY EAST ELECTROLOGY, on the corner of 16th and Broadway, on the top floor of a charming historic home. \r I was spoiled in Austin and began seeking out electrologists as soon as I moved town. Being a semi - retired electrologist myself, my standards are quite high. After having treatments around town, I was never satisfied until I found Barbara Failing. \r There are many reasons why Barbara is the best; she is always punctual, I have never waited for an appointment with her and her prices are reasonable - $25 per 15 minutes compared to $40 at other facilities. Barbara greets me with the biggest, brighest smile every time I see her, which is often (every 2 weeks). Her professionalism is unmatched in Portland, she has the highest regard for privacy and is very sympathetic to the woes of unwanted hair growth. Also, Barbara is using top of the line equipment, the Apilus, which is regarded as the top most electrolysis machine. Above all else, her treatments are very comfortable - despite having hot needles inserted into my face (HA HA) - in fact, I have begun permanently shaping my eyebrows, a dream I have had for years yet have never been able to tolerate the discomfort before Barbara! I leave her appointments with NO IRRITATION and I can meet my boyfriend at the neighborhood coffee shop and not be embarrassed or inflamed or anything! She does this amazing treatment after every appointment where she uses pure aloe and lavender and ""rolls"" the skin to both disinfect and cool the areas. I have noticed a huge reduction in the amount of hair and what little is left is much softer and finer.\r I was recently at a ""Lady Party"" where we women were discussing facial hair, of course, and I mentioned Barbara. very skilled and experienced, competent and careful at the art of electrolysis. Barbara Failing has a good sense of all of the variablees like not using too much electricity which can be painful and harm your skin but also not making the problem worse. I'm very picky and hypersensitive about a lot of things like fresh air, etc and Barbara was incredibly tolerant and never got her ego in the way. I never had any skin irritation from going to her and I would highly recommend her. Also she really worked to fit me in to her schedule even when it was a bit inconvenient for her and was always aware and careful about maintaining a high standard both of cleanliness and professionalism in her practice. I've been seeing Barbara Failing of Broadway East Electrology for a few years now. My hair has been resistant and hormonally-driven, but Barbara has done the best job out of all the electrologists I've seen in the last 20 years. She is tenacious, patient and completely knowledgeable about hair growth patterns, AND she's enthusiastic about her job!
