Bridie McKenna's Irish Pub & Restaurant Review 3/9/2011

My wife and myself were at Bridie McKenna's last week for our anniversary. The service was outstanding, over and above what we have often seen in other establishments. The servers were extremely cheerful and experienced. The food was excellent, with great portions and prices. We will definitely be coming back again. more

Nice place for a Pint!! 3/8/2011

Everything about this Pub was outstanding! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the staff and owners were absolutly wonderful, the bartenders were witty and knowledgeable and the food was SUPERB!!!! I started with the Goat Cheese and Pesto Flatbread, moved to a cup of Potato Bacon Cabbage soup, for the main course I had the Chicken Curry and dessert was topped off with a Rhubarb Cobbler. OUTSTANDING! Wait, did I say that already?? Live music and Irish dancers every Tueday night and the Free Craic all week long will keep me coming back for years and years! more

Love Bridie McKenna's 10/31/2008

We went to Bridie McKena's on a Saturday evening. We did wait for a table but it was so worthwile. I had Calamari as app. and my partner had Irish Nachos. They were superb. We had Chicken Curry and The Filet for our main course and they were delicious. For dessert we had Rhubard Cobbler (delicious) and Irish Apple Tart which was just like home (yummy).\r We then had a Proper Pint of Guinness and waited to hear the live entertainment. It was one guy who played irish and american tunes and he was really good.\r We also met the owners who are genuine Irish and they were really nice.\r We will definitely be back.\r Thumbs Up to Bridie McKenna's! Pros: Genuine Irish Atmosphere with fabulous food and entertainment Cons: Portions are over generous more

Great shepard's pie-they actually pour a proper pint. My pub of choice outside County Mayo. 8/23/2008

This has the flavor of a County Mayo and a Dublin (proper and county) pub all in one. The food is good and you WILL have to wait for a table on a busy night (most nights). The entire staff knows how to pour the black stuff unlike these ""pubs"" in Chicago and Boston (sorry South side and Southies). The Highwood moms are hubba hubba too.\r Pros: Authentic pub w/authentic Irish mangement/flavor. Nice eating area. Cons: You'll wait for a table-eat at the bar baby more

Appalling Customer Service 4/14/2008

This is a bar, not a restaurant. Avoid it at all costs.\r \r We arrived at 6:45pm and had to wait TWO HOURS for a table for four. They don't take reservations and won't tell you how long yours will be so we were constantly fobbed off with ""nearly ready now"", ""just clearing down the table"", ""you're next on the list"" and so on. Whilst you wait you can soak in the authentic Irish atmosphere; what with the Bud Lite, the televised baseball and the neon signs. Yes, this is one of *those* Irish bars - tacky and soulless. When you are finally seated, the food is as bland as the decor. Add in the insanity of trying to park in Highwood (dozens of restaurants and no parking lots!) and the ""live"" music (which was so awful it cleared that part of the bar) and it's easy to understand why it's one star. Never, ever again. Cons: Obscene wait for table, bland food, noisy, awful, awful place more

lovely, adult place to have a drink 2/16/2008

I went here for lunch the week it opened and they were still getting their act together -- there was some confusion about seating etc. The draft beer choices are varied and delicious. I had leek soup that was so green that it looked like pea soup. It was a bit bitter but otherwise all right. My fresh green salad was fine. I'm not sure I would necessarily go back there to eat, but it would be a great place to go for a drink -- there are two bars to choose from plus cozy seats in the front room. The decor is very nice and a lot of thought has clearly gone into it. We didn't try any of the Irish entrees, so I can't comment on those. more

Owner Message
  • Bridie McKenna's Irish Pub is the result of years of planning and hard work by the primary owner, Mr. Fran Moore, who originally hails from Dublin, but has lived in the Chicago area for the last 30 years. He is a contractor by trade and his attention to detail is evident throughout the Pub. There are three other partners in the business Jim Kane, Scott Offer and Seamus Kavanagh, each with different backgrounds, but each with a great passion for Irish Pubs. The words above the main door Slan Abhaile are the Irish words for safe home - slan = safe and abhaile = home. As in traditional Ireland, Bridie McKenna's is a Community Pub, also known as the Public House. The owners of Bridie McKenna's are committed to being an integral part of the community. Apart from the atmosphere, we have a very extensive menu. The menu includes many traditional Irish dishes, homemade soups and hearty sandwiches, and fantastic desserts. Our bar is stocked with 13 Premium Draft Beers and over 25 Bottled Beers. Selections of wines by the glass are also available, and Bridie McKenna's features an excellent range of fine whiskeys. Bridie McKenna's aims to be the finest Irish Pub in the area. We feature live music and special events every week. Our greatest hope is that customers will feel at home when they visit Bridie McKenna's, and that our patrons will get to experience some of that world famous Irish hospitality. Bridie McKenna's is a truly authentic Irish Pub, and a place where customers will experience the friendliest welcome on the north shore.
