Editorial review from Citysearch 1/9/2013

If you want a loved one to get good care, do not send them to the Brian Center. The doctor for the facility only comes to see the patients twice a week, however he feels secure in making decisions on the medical care of your loved one never having even stepped foot into the facility while they were in their care. My mother was admitted on a Wednesday, for rehabilitation after hip revision surgery. Doctor Long, I was told, makes rounds on Tuesdays and Saturdays. My mother has been under the care of a Pulmonary specialist for years, but Dr. Long decided that through his ""research"" my mother did not require the medicine ordered by her Pulmonary specialist. Needless to say, my mother was moved out of the facility Friday, before that man could lay a hand, let alone an eye on my mother.\r \r I have looked at a lot of the other posts, after having my own experience with the facility. I have to say that I agree with most of the complaints:\r \r 1/ The place reeks of urine from the time you walk in the building. \r 2/ The food is disgusting to look at, let alone eat!\r 3/ There are too many patients for the nursing staff to effectively care for each and every one of them.\r 4/ They are not diligent with following admittance orders from outside doctors, hospitals, etc...\r 5/ Once they finally realize that there are medicines that they require for the patient, it takes an abnormal amount of time to have them delivered to the facility...I was told they needed 4 hours for my mother's IV antibiotics to be delivered from their Pharmacy in Charlotte, NC...It took over 8 hours, by then, my mom had already missed 2 doses.\r 6/ The bureaucracy within the building affects the care of the patient. I feel for the staff, who when they receive the patient, have orders to administer specific meds, treatments, etc... from discharge doctors, they have to explain to the families that the orders were overruled by an absentee facility Doctor.\r 7/ The nurses will see/hear the call button has been pressed and either ignore it, or an aide will come in the room and disengage it and walk out. Sometimes my mother would need to press the button 3 times before actually getting taken care of, I know this because I spent the day watching it happen.\r \r It took less than one day for myself to decide that the place was not the right place for my mom. However, we tried to give the facility a chance to work out all their issues. By the next day, nothing was fixed and the situation only got worse. I arrived at the facility at 6:00 am on Friday and told them to start discharge procedures, my mother will not be staying there another day. They did everything they could to try to make her stay until Monday...but at finally 5:00 pm, my father and I drove away from the place and hope that no one we know will ever have to go through what my mother endured in the 3 short days she was there. more
