Best

For real, love this spot. Partied with some crazy work people and we will be going back for sure. Honestly one of my favorite bars in all of nyc. great atmosphere, great people.

Worst

We ordered drinks (stoli tonics) and got TONIC. We complained and got slighty better drinks, our second round the SAME thing happened. The crowd is a bunch of Carrie/Sex & City ...

Fun, Low-Key 10/26/2006

Brass Monkey is a great place to hang-out. Relaxed atmosphere makes for a big difference in a neighbourhood full of chi-chi establishments. Pros: Good drinks selection, friendly staff, relaxed environment more

possibly your worst move 6/11/2006

Not only was the bar overcrowded.. its a lame scene of out of town yuppies, drunk bachelorettes and cheesy chesthair. the bud lites are $6 each and served by the rudest bartenders I've ever encountered in NYC. The music is cliche as well. This place is a must miss in the meatpacking district, trust me... not worth your time and money.... Unless you like watered down drinks and ugly people. more

Great place!! 2/23/2006

Brass Monkey is such a refreshing addition to the Meat Packing District! It's a normal, no-attitude, non-bridge & tunnel bar which is hard to come by in this neighborhood! Great place to go after work or at the beginning or end of a night out. Pros: Good Food, Inexpensive, Good Service more

Relax w/ a brewski 2/16/2006

I love this bar. Me and a few co-workers go there after work from time to time and we always have a great time. #1 - they have the best beer selection in the area in my opinion. #2 - the food is really really good (they often have Calamari, but you have to ask) #3 - the crowd is relaxed and ""normal"". Pros: beer, good prices, great food Cons: badly lit bathrooms more

Don't bother trying to throw a bday party here! 12/5/2005

Don't get me wrong, the bar is a good time! It's spacious, the atmosphere is great, and the music is alot of fun. However, I made three phone calls to plan a bday party, 2 weeks in advance. When I arrived, no one knew what I was talking about. I had 43 people come to a bar, thinking they were getting discounted drinks, and a roped off area...None of which happened. But would I go there on a weekend with a few friends? Absolutely! more

Regular Bar in the Meatpacking District 8/25/2005

This is a normal bar unlike the ""trendy"" clubs that you'd find in the Meatpacking District. There are a wide variety of beers to choose them. The food menu is a little limited. There's a front bar area and then the 2nd half of the bar has a big screen TV to watch games and the like. Prices are average ($5 for Coors Light). Good mix of people. more

Great Party! Yummy Food 8/10/2005

I have been to at least 4 birthday parties at Brass Monkey and every party has been so much fun! Highly recommend this space for a good time. The Food is exceptional too. Mussels, fries and burger were awesome. CRAZY beer list too! Pros: great space, happy hour more

Great place, semi-rude service 3/21/2005

I agree about the gratuity applied to the bill for large groupsit caused confusion! They hope no one notices and tips extra. I noticed it and told my friend (who put the bill on his card) he still tipped a little more. The waitress came over and RUDELY said we didnt tip 20%. I told her it was already in there and she disagreed. I pulled out the detailed bill and showed her it was. I politely told her she got MORE than 20%...she walked away in a huff, no apology, nothing. Other than that, great place! more

high hopes dashed 3/7/2005

I had big hopes for this seemingly normal pub in the middle of trendinista central. The first time I visited was on a weeknight and it was relaxed and enjoyable. The next time was with a large group for a party and I guess the word was now out that this un-scene was now the new scene. After dinner and drinks it took half an hour to walk to the bathroom from the front room. There were multiple mistakes on food orders and when the bill came, most drinks were priced a dollar more than they appeared on the drink menu. Also, since we were a large party, a gratuity was added (standard procedure, no doubt) but it was the first line item on the check and not the last - placed there perhaps in hopes that most folks wouldn't see it and then possibly double-tip. more

Good crowd 11/15/2004

The crowd was really friendly despite the fact that it got more and more packed as the night went on. I went with three of my girlfriends and we had a great time. The crowd seemed to be a mix of gay/straight so there were plenty of cuties for anyone's tastes... Beer selection is awesome! Pros: neighborhood, no cover, beer! more

awful 9/21/2004

We ordered drinks (stoli tonics) and got TONIC. We complained and got slighty better drinks, our second round the SAME thing happened. The crowd is a bunch of Carrie/Sex & City wannabes , and guys with patterned french cuff shirts from Club Monaco who think they are neat hanign out in Meatpacking Dist. SEnd these new meatpacking bars to SOUTH BEACH where they belong. more

Great place 7/30/2004

Forget those trendy, pretentious bars/lounges. For all of you that are tired of 'the scene' like I am this is the place for you! There is no hassle at the door, the inside is really big so it doesn't get all packed and sweaty and the crowd is attractive and fun. This is my new favorite spot! Pros: Laid-back, Fun more

Great New Find 7/14/2004

Great new Irish pub with a really big beer selection. Good music, fun crowd, and the location can't be beat. Pros: Inexpensive, Selection, Location more

  • Though the bar's backdrop of glowing liquor bottles and exposed-brick walls is reminiscent of nearby see-and-be-seen spots, the relaxed, friendly pub vibe sets it apart. It's all wood, from floors...
