Boxers Bar & Grill

Sorry the other two reviewers had such a bad experience there, I must go on quieter nights when the place is less packed, and I can actually hear what the person I am with has to say. Apart from a strange man (who apparently works there) who is the dish cleaner, and appears as soon as you've emptied your glass to remove it, and argues with the waiter if he tries to clear your plate, service was very good. (Bartender was slow, however.) Food was mediocre - I wouldn't expect much from a bar, but it was adequate. Buffalo burger was pretty good, crab cakes fair. I had 3 gin and tonics. Usually one puts me away, and I wasn't even buzzed after 3, so not sure they put much alcohol in the drinks. Atmosphere is very laid back, fun place to hang out with a few friends for a casual meal. more

I have no idea why I've even been this bar. It's full of rowdy straight people who somehow think that the no man's land of a neighborhood sandwiched between NYU and the West Village is cool. Lame service, mediocre food and perfectly acceptable (although overpriced) drinks await you here. I can't imagine making it a destination; it's totally one of those places you go because you can't come up with a better plan. Trust me, come up with a better plan. more

The sign to Boxers has caught my eye many a time but I only recently decided to check this place out for myself. Sadly, some rude service ruined what would have been an otherwise good meal. The food itself was pretty good , though the apple brown betty I had for dessert far surpassed the burger and fries I had for lunch. Still, I'd likely give Boxers a second chance for it's far too cute of a place to hold one lackluster experience against. more
