Living in the middle of a redwood forest is like living in a tinder box. So it is vital to have a lightning fast fire department. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Boulder Creek Fire Department.
The first year my teenage son stayed home alone during the summer, I got a phone call that would terrify any parent. My son called to let me know that the forest was burning just across the way from our home!
I told him to stand outside the house where the firemen could see him and give him any instructions until I got there. By the time I drove up from San Jose, The firemen had the fire completely out!
That day I went and got some large cakes and took them to the fire house for the guys who had worked on the fire. I'll never for get how scary that day was!
