if you like dry ribs, and slow service... 9/6/2006

this is your place! i hate writing anything bad about bbq resturants, but there's no excuse for the food we were served at boneyard bistro. we had the ribs, tri-tip and various sides. unfortunately the fried mac and cheese was the only tasty item we had. i honestly cannot believe that anyone can call themselves a bbq joint and serve these ribs. not only a major disappointment, but we walked away feeling cheated and robbed. sorry boneyard bistro, we won't be coming back for a second try. Pros: location? Cons: dry ribs, slow service, TOO EXPENSIVE!! more

Horrible Experience 7/21/2006

My girlfriend and I went to Boneyard Bistro on a very hot Saturday night (over 100 degrees). We had been wanting to try it for some time, and were pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was only half full. We walked in and the host asked if we had reservations. We did not, so he informed us that we could only sit outside. There were at least five or six open tables, but nevertheless, we would have to sit outside in the 100 degree heat in order to eat our dinner. There were no other people waiting around for tables, so we have absolutely no idea why we were told to sit outside. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere, and have no intention on ever trying Boneyard Bistro. Perhaps the host did not like how we were dressed (shorts and T-shirt, it is after all Los Angeles and 100 degrees!), but we were pretty offended. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the food or the ambience, but the character of the restaurant was revealed to be very deficient in our opinion. more

Great BBQ! 7/12/2006

Originally hailing from Texas, I have always been on the lookout for decent BBQ here in Los Angeles with absolutely no luck. That's why I was so pleased to eat at Boneyard Bistro, the brisket is tender and smokey and the baked beans are tasty. Don't leave without trying the fried mac 'n' cheese which is amazing. They also have a wonderful wine selection that pairs well with their food. They had other menu items for people who are not craving BBQ that looked yummy as well. The place is very small and can get quite loud. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance and grab a booth if you can. Overall, I really enjoyed Boneyard Bistro and will definitely go back again. Pros: Great BBQ and Baked Beans, Great Wines Cons: Loud and small restaurant more

Mixed Feelings 5/30/2006

I come out recommending this restaurant because I really like certain dishes. I like the pulled pork dumplings, the calamari, fried mac n'cheese, the pork ribs, and the bbq platter. The bbq'd meats are all very tender, flavorful, and come with a wonderful bbq sauce. However, I have had the braised short ribs and found them more fatty and boney than meaty. I have also tried the lamb and it was just okay. I also thought the collard greens were lacking, as well as the beans. I am also a huge dessert lover, and really couldn't get into any of the desserts there. The wait staff is knowledgable, but somewhat unattentive at times, and one hostess was very curt with us even though we had reservations. The booths are more comfortable, but can only seat smaller groups. The restaurant is VERY loud so be prepared. more

Great split personality helps Boneyard 3/14/2006

This place has a split personality -- and it works well. The BBQ, which is what we went for was very solid, but it was the ""bisro"" side that knocked our socks off. The duck spring rolls, King Kobb (that's how they spell it!) salad and the crispy calamari salad were great apps. The Kobe burger was outstanding and the grilled mushroom entree was the best I've ever tasted (2 large mushrooms, with fontina cheese over a potato tower). The deserts were great, too. We had a PB and Jelly bon-bon and a banana spli in a martini glass. Only downsides are noise, small space. Also GREAT wines and beers from around the world. Worth going but make a reso. Pros: Food, wine and beer, value Cons: small, need reservations more

DIG IN 11/3/2005

I have eaten there several times since the place opened in Oct. 2005. The beef ribs, tri tip and smoked brisket (14 hours in the smoker) are unbelievable. For the non-carnivores, try the portobello mushroom entree with mashers and carmelized onions. GREAT! Sides include baked beans, cole slaw and deep fried mac and cheese. Also check out the reasonable and inventive wine list (average price about $40 and some interresting labels -- not your ususal stuff found on the shelves of Von's) and the great beers that compliment the BBQ. Baked brie and pulled pork dumplings are great starters. There are also 3 or 4 salads that are very good. Ambiance is wonderful, but place is small so table close together. Good idea to call ahead. Pros: food, value, wine and beer Cons: small more
