This is best local sushi spot in the bayside area that my wife and I have been frequenting for the past year! The sushi is always fresh and the chef is friendly and always welcoming. He is always trying new combinations and testing them on the customers for free. You can customize your favorite roll and have it permamently added to the menu or try out other customer/chef creations. We always order a new roll each time and are delightfully surprised. We often will ask to have the chef surprise us with 3 special rolls which are spectacular every time! The rolls are always beautifully prepared and always topped with something special whether it be tuna, yellowtail, eel, scallops and sometimes the whole roll is slightly baked or fried. Amazing!
The price is great for the amount of food received on cooked dishes and special rolls. The regular rolls that you can get anywhere are normal portions, but if you order one of the customized rolls, it is large enough for a meal in itself. We always order about 3 special rolls which is usually in the 30 dollar range for two. The non-sushi dishes like tonkatsu are excellent and generous in portion.
The service is always polite and prompt. They fill my water cup before I have to ask (hard to find these days)!
This is a hidden gem which we only revealed to our friends because it only 8 tables, but now that we have moved out of town, we don't mind sharing with everyone. Groups larger than 6-8 may have difficulty, although they do have a party room downstairs which we've had take up to 12 people and could probably handle more.
I think what sets this place apart is that you get consisteny and creativity of rolls which is on par or better than many manhattan restaurants along with coziness of being a regular without the mayhem of a manhattan hot spot. We will miss this place and it will be hard to find a replacement in NJ.
Pros: Fresh sushi, creative designs, large parking in back
Cons: Small for groups larger than 8
