I love this place. The new location on Eureka road isn't as cozy as the other one was but they needed more room and had to expand.

The only people who like the sushi at BPT are people who don't eat sushi any place else. I haven't found worse sushi in very many places. I've been to alot of sushi places, and on...

Great sushi, reasonable price 4/14/2012

Enjoyable Every Time 1/12/2011

I am somewhat a regular at the Black Pine. Its outside appearance might seem somewhat ordinary, like a hole in the wall, but it's anything but. The food is full of flavor, from Kake Udon to the Dragon Roll. On Wednesdays, between 11am and 2pm they offer all-you-can-eat California Rolls. The prices are reasonable for a sushi restaurant. I caution anyone to keep in mind that extremely cheap sushi could be extremely dangerous sushi. This place has been safe to eat at for as long as I've been coming to it, which is roughly five years. more

Ewww 2/26/2010

This place is terrible. I used to eat sushi at least once a week when I lived away at school. When I can home one weekend and found a sushi place downriver I was so excited. However, after eating there I was so grossed out I couldn't even think about sushi without wanting to vomit. This place is so gross. After being so grossed out I needed the taste out of my mouth and decided to get some green tea ice cream dessert, even their ice cream was awful. If this is the only place you have had sushi at, I am sorry you are missing out. Try the old mansion place in Novi... Pros: only sushi place downriver Cons: you can buy better sushi at kroger more

Great CA rolls! 1/2/2010

I go here a couple of times a month. Always great staff and food! The salad is fresh and they have the best ginger dressing, the miso soup is also great! I love to get the CA combo either #1 or #2. They have about 6 different types of CA rolls which makes every experience different and yummy! You have to try the Burning CA Roll!! It is really spicy but I would have to say this is the best they have! I always bring my friends who are new to sushi, they have all loved it and wanted to go back. Pros: Great selections and great tasting sushi Cons: small, does not have a website more

Great Staff, Great Food 11/13/2009

My friend and I tried this resturant several monthes ago, and loved it! Neither of us had ever had sushi before and was really looking forward to trying it. We were not disappointed. I am not a fan of fish, but we eat there several times a month. I love the spicy CA roll, and the Tempora CA roll! I would recommend this resturant to others. The staff was helpful and answered our questions. Pros: Excellent CA Rolls! Great Staff Cons: no complaints more

sysco 6/4/2009

The cat is out of the bag! They get there poduct from sysco. If you have ever had good sushi then you would know the sushi here is low scale for top price. When I sent my salmon back for not being fresh the owner took my whole plate of sashimi and tossed it in the dirty dishes bin ? I was only asking the salmon be taken back. I have been here several times due to the fact this is the only sushi resturant in this area. It is generally hitt or miss with the freshness of the fish. The staff is very great! I find it to be intense when the owner is around and I was not happy with her throwing my food away and not replacing my food..... Pros: great staff Cons: bad owner more

Delicious And Reasonable 4/4/2009

This is a little hideaway place. They dont advertise and they place is almost always packed. They have great homemade food and personable sushi chefs. Never had a problem here , and we've been eating here once a week for years! Pros: GREAT sushi, local more

Delicious place to eat! 11/28/2008

We ordered sashimi and it was out of this world. Fresh and melts in your mouth. This little place is VERY busy & packed on the weekends so plan ahead! Good service too Pros: Good Service more

Fab! 10/1/2008

**Update 06/03/10*** Pros: Food is awesome. Cons: Somewhat pricey, but worth it...and there are daily specials. Dining area could be bigger. more

Yuck 8/21/2008

I had to write about my experience to warn others. I went here for lunch one day while I was in Detroit based on all the 4 star reviews. Possibly the worst sushi experience of my life. I ordered a Sushi special (mostly chef's choice Nigiri with California roll, Miso Soup, and a house salad. First came the salad... brown lettuce and poor cuts of lettuce. The Miso Soup was good. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Terrible quality, poor prepration and presentation, not fresh more

Bad Sushi. Bad Service. But GREAT Katsu-Don. 7/27/2008

The only people who like the sushi at BPT are people who don't eat sushi any place else. I haven't found worse sushi in very many places. I've been to alot of sushi places, and only a handful weren't better than BPT. Pros: Good meals. Good drink selection. Cons: Bad sushi. Poor service. Expensive. more

Great Sushi and Sashimi 2/10/2008

I echo the kind earlier comments; great sushi and sashimi. Ben, the sushi chef is very efficient and funny. Pros: Great food, friendly service and Ben more

great sushi 9/27/2007

We love Black Pine Tree. The food is very fresh, the staff is very friendly. If we ever have a question about a dish, the servers description and recommendations are always right on. Parking is tight in the front lot, but it is definitely the best sushi in the downriver area. Pros: great sushi Cons: tight parking more

Downriver's only place for sushi!!!! 6/23/2007

I've been going to Black Pine Tree for close to 2 years now, never have I been disappointed with their food or their service. The owners and staff are always friendly and welcoming, food is always fresh and prepared quickly, the restaurant is always clean. I've been to many places in SE MI for sushi and this place ranks right up there with the best of them. Try them for yourself, you will not be disappointed! BONUS: Monday - Sushi Happy Hour - 15% off! Pros: Price, quality, taste, friendliness Cons: Small parking, kind of hard to find more

delicious food and nice service 5/19/2007

Pros: very good food, very good service more

Waitresses ignore you 10/31/2006

My fiance and I were so excited to try this restaurant and we were disappointed. The waitress seemed bothered to converse with us about which items and specials she would recommend. So, we tried the all you can eat. We got one plate to share and we were charged for two shares. Then we wanted a refill and it was evident that they did not want us there. I only say this because, the waitress looked right at me when I waved her over and she proceeded to turn around and walk away. When our tea became empty we got up and brought her back to the table, and asked her for a refill on our all you can eat special and our drinks and she asked us if we wanted to order anything else. We stated then that it was all you can eat and we wanted a refill since we were only brought one plate for two people. When we finally got the refill on the sushi, it was warm, and the avocado had turned brown and we ordered regular but there was pieces of spicy roll rice all over it. We tried to suffice, but the food was just so unappealing that we got up and left. We tried to explain to the host who then proceeded to tell us that the sushi was good for 4 hours. I got to tell you though, the experience is supposed to be about the freshness, I did not want 4 hour old sushi. All I can say is we know better not to ever return, and the sad part is that we would have been very good customers. Be warned if you want good service and fresh sushi, seek other facilities. Pros: The miso soup was delicious. Cons: Food that wasnt fresh and terrible service. more

Excellent sushi bar! 7/28/2006

This place has great sushi & other japanese food. We didn't even know there was a sushi bar in downriver! Worth trying out. more

hidden treasure 7/18/2006

don't judge this book by it's cover. I have lived near it for a while and didn't think a strip mall shushi bar/steak house would be very good. Man, I was wrong. This place is great. Our destination at least once a week. I wish they would consider moving to downtown wyandotte! more

Best Sushi in Detroit Metro Area 4/11/2006

We've travelled for miles around for sushi and this is the best sushi overall in the Detroit area! Try the Black Pine Tree Roll or the Shrimp Tempura Roll and you'll be hooked! The tempura meals are very good and the restaurants portions are very filling! The service is warm and wonderful and the waitresses are very good about answering any questions and helping with choices. The sushimi is fresh and the wasabi's hot! The cost is on the high side for sushi but it is well worth it! Pros: good portions, parking in back, serves alchohol Cons: strip mall, parking in front more

Little Gem 2/12/2006

Outstanding sushi. Great food, if you're not into sushi. Teppan grilles, or just order off of the menu. Realistically, though, you're here for the sushi. It's great. Lunch specials are generous portions at reasonable prices. Hey, it's not like there's a lot of sushi options Downriver! However, this is a great sushi restaurant. Pros: sushi, food, atmosphere Cons: strip mall location, Downriver :-) more
