Where are you ZAGAT? 11/23/2008

What a lovely surprise after an interesting visit to the Hurst Castle - the dream house of William Randolph Hurst nearby! Our dining experience in this intimate and very cosy place was absolutely fabulous! The food was imaginative and very well prepared and service was impeccable. I would recommend The Black Cat bistro any time. Among several other good food places in Cambria, we are going back to Black Cat for our farewell meal before leaving for San Francisco tomorrow. more

Perfect Dining Experience, Exceeded Expectations 11/26/2007

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner here in September and it was amazing. We had visited several restaurants from Paso Robles to Cambria to Morro Bay for our rehearsal dinner spot and Black Cat blew away the competition. In fact, Black Cat was our last hope. Other restaurants were so uninspiring we considered holding our rehearsal dinner a few days early where we live in L.A. All of our guests were impressed with the menu, the friendly staff, and the cozy ambience. The staff had lit candles everywhere, turned the lights down, and let us play our own music over their system. They even made a personalized menu with our names on them for each place setting. The bar was never without champagne which was ready for our guests to take as they pleased. They served excellent wine, beer, and specialty drinks. Service was prompt from the amazing appetizers to dessert, which couldn't have been easy to serve 52 people at essentially the same time. The presentation was gorgeous and the whole event was sheer elegance without being stuffy. The menu was creative (fig crostini, oven roasted celery root & pear soup, sauteed shrimp & beet gnocchi, caramelized apple stuffed breast of pheasant to name a few dishes). Even the children's menu was hip but kid friendly. People were actually satisfied, no one left hungry. Pros: The entire dining experience. Great food, staff, and chef. Cons: Chef was a little hard to pin down initially but she is very nice. more

Favorite Cambria Restaurant 8/21/2007

Being a San Francisco native, restaurant hopping is what I do in every city I visit. Our north coast visit was of course, Black Cat Bistro, an elegantly hip excursion that met all expectations. I immediately checked out the wine list to see how it measured up. I was at once at home with sought after wines from all regions. am one for sitting at the bar where I can take in all of the hustle-bustle of restaurant activity, In BlackCat, sitting at the ""bar"" is NOT a ""bar"" it is a dining experience. more

My New Favorite Central Coast Restaurant 8/21/2007

I am a local and I dined at Black Cat with my mother and close friend on my first visit. We had an incredible experience and I consider myself very critical of restaurants. I will definitely be bringing everyone I know here. Pros: friendly staff, fireplace, fun bar, happy guests more

Oh so good! 3/29/2005

Went to the Black Cat recently after it was recommended by our motel. Otherwise we never would have thought of it. After it was recommended to us, during the day we asked around with the locals. It is known as the very best restaurant in town. Feeling sucure, we went and were blown away with how fantastic it was! And our standards are sometimes too high. The food, the service - we felt like we were guests in the chef/owner's home and that she had gone all out. And the prices - so reasonable! They could charge much more and we would come back again and again. This is definitely our new favorite! DON'T MISS IT! Pros: Fireplace, Patio, Happy Staff Cons: None! more

FABULOUS RESTAURANT 11/22/2004

Of all the restaurants I've visited in the US and abroad, this is the best. The food is delicious (everything on the menu is outstanding), the ambiance is charming, warm and inviting and the owner-hostess makes the visitor feel like he/she is the most important diner she has ever had the opportunity to serve. I have returned to Cambria several times just to enjoy this experience again and again. Pros: Ambiance, Food quality, Welcoming more

Wow Meow 11/20/2004

I went to the Black Cat for a very romantic evening and was incredibly impressed. We had a corner table in a lovely dining room (with fireplace!) Not only was the ambience fabulous, but the food was equally stunning... and delicious! Can't recommend it highly enough... more

beautiful food in a beautiful place! 11/20/2004

Stumbled across this wonderful restaurant on my way up the coast. Very cozy, welcoming environment with world-class cuisine! The scallops are insanely good, best I've ever had. Extremely well put together wine list. All around, rivals some of the best restaurants in LA and SF. Don't miss it! Pros: tapas bar, fireplace, great service more
