Best

Everything was perfect. Food, service, ambience, etc. Duck, risotto, red pepper salad, LOBSTER were all out of this world. I can't wait to go there again. Doc

Worst

That was their excuse for our 2 and a half hour meal last night. "sorry the kitchen is behind" sorry, your table is not ready, "we are behind" "sorry we are down a chef." We visit...

Haven't Been There Yet 12/10/2010

And, by the reviews, it will be a long time before I give it a try. External ambiance is beautiful. When will they get it together inside?... more

Down a chef, not my problem... 9/25/2010

That was their excuse for our 2 and a half hour meal last night. "sorry the kitchen is behind" sorry, your table is not ready, "we are behind" "sorry we are down a chef." We visited last month and had a nice experience sitting on the patio. We brought two friends last night who were not happy to be served dinner at 10PM with a 8 PM reservation.. An offer of a free drink, dessert, anything probably would have eased the pain, but, iI guess the french in them prevented such a move toward and ugly american :) What a shame since the food is so good. Nights like this will destroy a great restaurant. Shame on them for bad management. more

Delightful evening 9/21/2010

We were almost dissuaded by the many negative reviews about the service at Bistro Provence, but decided we would make our own minds up about this new addition to the Bethesda restaurant scene. We are GLAD that we did. It was one of the best meals we have had in recent years, and the service was fabulous for our group of three women celebrating a birthday. A complimentary tiny crab cake with a red pepper sauce was sent to our table by the chef, and we agreed that it was one fo the best we had ever had. The entrees and vegetable dishes were delicious -- properly prepared and served and we had a fabulous evening. Some of my friends have subsequently gone there on my recommendation and had terrific meals. Try it, you'll like it! more

Worst "service" we've ever experienced 9/17/2010

I made a reservation a week in advance for the patio and reconfirmed it on the day of the dinner. It was my husband's birthday dinner and we brought two guests. The patio was fully occupied and we were told that everyone seated there had reservations for it (us too, of course. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait, so we gave up and sat inside. We were seated at 7:30. Our drinks didn't arrive for half an hour. Our first course arrived at 8:45. A couple of thie dishes were very good, the rest were pretty ordinary. Our waitress did her best, but both the bar tender and the kitchen were incredibly behind. There's no excuse for that kind of service. The evening cost $350 for the four of us. We won't be going back. more

Great food, improving service. 9/12/2010

We just had a fine dinner on a fine night in the justly heralded terrace/garden. Great shrimp risotto and white fig/scallop appetizers followed by a lovely branzino, clam, scallop combo in a beurre blanc and also salmon with a tasty eggplant-less ratatoille. In contrast to someone's previous report, I found the molten chocolate cake with caraway seed ice cream (ever heard of that?) much better than most. My big concern is what will happen comes cold weather? The door from the street opens immediately into a dining room with absolutely no buffer area. Unless there is some new construction, this could be a disaster. Make sure you request and get an interior table. Then enjoy a great meal. Bon appetit! more

Good food - HORRIBLE SERVICE 8/22/2010

Went to Bistro Province for our wedding anniversary. Ordered a bottle of white wine in the $40 range. After our appetizers were served a bottle of red we didn't order appeared. Then finally sometime during our main course a HOT bottle of white shows up and we are told to let it chill in the ice bucket they gave us. Well that never did cool. So when we asked to have it taken off the bill they said since they opened it and poured my husband a glass we were out of luck and could take it home. Great, now I have a $40+ bottle of white cooking wine! There was no manager on duty to deal with it either - putting our waitress in a bad position. Lobster w/ green lentils was delicious. more

Rip Off and Service Run by Amateurs 7/9/2010

This place needs some real work- food was ok but heirloom tomatoes & mozzarella salad had tiny slivers of mozzarella, barely an 1/8 of a ball used and tomatoes were NOT heirloom! The seabass on the menu was 1 oz protion, 3 scallops and a shrimp cut in half, what a joke! Too many wiaters & staff and no one knows whats going on: wrong food brought to table, desserts never arrived, the whole dinner was a disaster and it wasnt even that busy. Cant imagine the Bethesda crowd will enjoy being ripped off...This place is not a bistro and has the attitude of a dated and stuffy french restaurant stuck in 1988... more

big improvement in new Bistro 6/18/2010

Our second visit to BP was a BIG improvement in the service, from horrible to superb...servers may have had big turnover. We had a wonderful, knowlegable waiter (recent arrival from New York City). Both visits were in good weather out the beautiful rear garden. Wish we could have seen the blue sky, however, the awnings mostly covered the opening. Food was really good both times, tho' a bit expensive and fancy for a "Bistro." Large veal chop was beautiful, succulent and tender. Hanger steak (more like bistro fare) was tasty and very tender. First course of sauteed squid and mushrooms was small but flavorful and tender. Dessert "Gazpacho" of rhubarb and strawberries was crunchy, sweet, and flavorful; well accompanied by mascarpone ice cream. more

food very good- service embarassingly bad 6/2/2010

As the title says- the food was downtown DC quality but the service laughingly poor. So, if you go leave plenty of time to wait for your order and enjoy the fine wine list. more

Great to have in Bethesda 5/18/2010

I had lunch here with three business friends. Great food, a very well designed restuarant, quiet enough to have a conversation, good wine and no problems with the service. About the best Bethesda has to offer. more

Dining should not be punishment 5/1/2010

After sitting at our table for forty minutes and not seeing a waiter, we went to Grapeseed and had a great meal. We're happy that Chef Yannick has come to Bethesda. Perhaps someday he'll bring service with him. more
