Worst

For a text book definition of bouncers on a power trip, combined with unintelligent and rude wait/barstaff visit this place. I have had two bad experiences there and will never go...

This Place is Gross... 3/13/2012

Seriously... I live on Grand Ave and have tryed this place a couple of times just to get a beer. I've never loved the vibe but I have friends that want to meet here. The other night I finally tryed the food. My burger had a long hair in it! GROSS! The fries were cold! When I told my server what happened they asked if aI was smoking somthing? They said it must be my hair and the food was warm when they brought it out. I was shocked! To accuse me of doing drugs is so rude!!! This place is nasty and so is the service. I'll never go back to this hill-billy hell hole. HA! more

Choose wisely 7/27/2010

I've been going to Billy's for a long time now. Most of the staff is friendly if you're not a complete idiot waving money at them or trying screaming at them so they skip all their other customers and come immediately to you. The food is mediocre at best, but there are some redeeming selections. A few, at least. The chicken strawberry salad is really good and there are a few sandwiches. The ribs are a great deal -- a half rack is like 14 bucks and the ribs are very good and come with about a day's worth of food. \r \r Yeah some of the waits are poor but seriously, I've seen the types that hate a place like Billy's, and sometimes I don't blame the servers for rolling their eyes at the stupid things customers say and want. The other day I overheard a woman (and this is while the place is packed) ask for new food because her sandwich and fries were touching on the plate. Ugh. Some of the bartenders and servers are very nice and good at their job, but, people, this is St. Paul: rude customers get treated in kind here. That's just how it is. So if you're the one screaming for the server/bartender's attention and then get angry when the server/bartender has an attitude, then just shut up and leave. You're not wanted.\r \r Pros: Strong drinks. Some surprising food. Cons: Some bad servers. more

terrible customer service 8/28/2009

I had to return my food 3 times because the bread was hard, the salad was brown and the vegetables were dried up. the waitress was very sarcastic and rude and tried to convince me there was nothing wrong with the food and I was the first person in 7 years to return my food. when I asked to talk to a manager, she refused and said she was the acting manager. when I contacted Billys they never got back to me. I will always remember this experience and tell people about it. more

Terrible Twin Cities Lunch Destination 2/19/2009

I consider myself a local expert on lunch hot spots. Billy's on Grand is incredibly subpar. I'd explain the whole thing, but there is an article in the Minneapolis Examiner that explains is well. To find it - Google search: ""Twin Cities Worst Lunch Spots: Billy's on Grand"". Should be the first link. Pros: Patio Cons: Everything else more

calling all sports fans and college students 12/5/2008

this is the perfect place for that kind of crowd, bunch of tv's that play sports all the time, they have shuttles to the wild games, and college students love this place. the food is actually great here, i love the strawberry chicken salad. more

best bar food 12/1/2008

for a bar this place has really good food and a big variety, the owners girlfriend is a pain so watch out for her. Pros: the food is awesome Cons: owners girlfriend more

Never going back 6/10/2008

When you're in trouble and 2 feet from the bouncer....they're no help. I guess they're only job is to pack them in like sardines. I thought Bouncers were meant to help when problems arise...they only took one side and left the scene for it to only get worse.\r \r more

This place is so lame- go here at your own risk 3/12/2008

Hi everybody! I absolutely hate this place......I went here to party with my peeps on Friday and couldn't have had a more rude waitress. She brought the wrong drinks and complained about her ""rude"" customers to other co-workers in front of the whole place.\r \r The food was also really cold and I fear I will get sick from the food if I go back. The kitchen area looks like a petrie dish of disease. I really hope everyone avoids this place like the plague. \r \r My peeps and I certainly will in the future!!!!\r Peace out. Cons: Poor service, yucky food, dirty more

Hmm... 2/21/2008

The food is classic grill fare and has been consistently good. The service staff is another story. Recently my sister was in town and after an day of shopping on Grand Avenue we stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. We had to try to catch the attention of the hostess and then our waitress barely acknowledged us before returning to chat with a table full of college-age young men. We were nearly ignored, the chips and salsa appetizers was very disappointing and I was embarrassed to have suggested this restaurant to my sister. Pros: Consistent Food Cons: Poor Service more

Fun Hang Out 11/8/2006

This is a fun place to meet your friends and grab a drink! The food is decent and the social scene is fun. Billy's is especially fun during the summer when you can grab a table outside. more

Great Patio and Bar 11/5/2006

Billy's is a great place to hang out on Grand on a Sunny afternoon and have a couple beers. They guys can camp out on the patio or in the bar to catch the game, and let the girls shop all of the local boutiques. As the weather cools off they have the big patio warmers, allowing you to enjoy the MN outdoors just a little longer. Also do a shuttle to wild games. Pros: Great Patio more

Girl must be out of her mind 10/5/2006

Since when was it a Security guards job to work as your body guard, they are there to protect the bar, make sure everyone is legal and stop dangerous situations from occuring inside the bar. If you have been going out to bars for two years you should be a big enough girl to handle getting talked to by drunk people. If you don't like them, tell them that and move on. Tattle tailing to a bar employee that you didn't like the person that just talked to you won't get you anywhere. Security does not kick people out because you used to date them, they wronged you by calling you a name or they talked to your friend instead of you. Grow up. You are an adult act like one. more

WOW your security guards are way cool :( 10/3/2006

I will start by saying I have been going to Billy's for about two years and until recently have always loved the place. However last Friday night I had a terrible experience with a fellow patron and a Billy's ""security guard"". My party was getting ready to leave and heading twards the door when we were approached by a belligerent guy that was getting a little to friendly. We were about three feet from the door and the security guard at the door. Mr too friendly put his arm around me and I politely asked him to remove it. Mr belligerent was offened that I asked him not to touch me and started throwing my favorite ""b"" word around. The security guard sat at the door and tried to prentend he wasn't watching this guy cuss me out. My friend and I walked out the door and she stopped and asked the security guard if Mr belligerent could please be removed as to which he replied with a smile on his face that he has to witness the ""incident"" to kick anyone out. He was pretty impressed with his own answer as he sat on his stool and checked id's. I would just like to thank Billy's for employing such wonderful people and giving me one less place to stop on weekend for a drink. more

how does this place stay in business? 4/10/2006

Extremely rude waitress, who responded to our questions as if we were inconveniencing her. To one question she simply rolled her eyes and walked away without answering. The food was incredibly mediocre for the price we paid (expensive). I don't know what we were paying for. It certainly wasn't for food, service, or ambience. Open up your wallet and dump the contents down the nearest manhole. That's an apt description of our experience at Billy's. Cons: lousy service, bland food, expensive more

Gotta get the right spot 5/15/2003

Billy's is an odd shaped establishment. They have a patio, sun room, main bar, back bar and pool hall. The patio is the place to be in summer and the sun room next to the fireplace in winter. Billy's food is your typical deep fried bar fare and only average in taste. The real appeal is the people watching. Especially from the patio. Grand Ave. offers not stop traffic to distract you. From a sports bar perspective, this place should cover you. They have numerous TV's, pool tables and dart boards. I've never not had a fun time at Billy's. It's a good place to hang out, but not the greatest place on earth. more

Are you kidding?!? 1/22/2003

Trendy?? I would call it anything but trendy. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine bar. It's a typical college bar. Pros: Cheap Beer, Cheap Food, Lots o' room Cons: No girls, No cute girls, No good looking girls more

weekends 11/30/2002

during the summer months my wife and i can hardly wait for the weekends to head to billy's. we stop at least twice, sometimes three times a week. billy's is our number one pit stop. when we both are running errands we meet at billy's. Pros: crowded Cons: parking more

Relaxing fun 11/3/2002

Billy's has a relaxing and spacious environment with a variety of things to keep you occupied. The servers are friendly and the food is good and not overpriced. more

Bouncers and Bartender are really mean 10/23/2002

I have been to Billy's a lot of times in the past. Usually it's fun, but this time it was not so. As I tried to get through the front door, the bouncer demanded to see my id and then called me a HO bag for not being fast enough. (It was pretty crowded). Needless to say, I couldn't believe it. I demanded an apology, but wasn't given one. The lady bartender wasn't much better. She spilled my Gusiness and didn't know how to pour it right. I am very dissapointed and won't be going back here. Cons: bouncers, waitresses, bartenders more

A Great Bar with witchy waitress 10/18/2002

I've been to Billy's many times. We usually have a great time there. The patio is gret in the summer and it is a fun place to meet friends and just hang. However, when a mistake is made on a food order and we have to wait an hour for a new plate of nachos. Is it really asking too much for the waitress to not roll her eyes point-blank in front of us when we ask if we will be getting a discount. We have dealt with this one waitress many times and needless to say, she is sucky at her job and very rude to customers. If you go to Billy's - be sure to get a nice waitress or waiter - not the witchy one. more
