Totally worth going in the middle of the week, in cold weather to avoid the massive line. more

Goodness! 8/24/2011

This is a great spot when the items are fresh and just out the oven.. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the pastries are to die for! I always bring my nephew here for cookies and cupcakes and he never wants to leave... Keep up the good work more

Salted caramel and roasted banana 6/6/2011

BiRite is one of the best ice creams I’ve ever tasted. Salted caramel and roasted banana might sound odd but it’s a truly amazing combination. more

Best Ice Cream in SF! 4/6/2011

This place has some of the best ice cream in San Francisco. My favorite is the butter pecan. The sundaes are also great here. I did not like the lavender flavor ice cream personally; I thought it tasted like the lavender soap my girlfriend bought me. But I was pretty impressed they were able to get that flavor down. The only downside is the long lines. more

Salted Caramel Ice Cream? 9/1/2009

We'd seen this place on Food TV, and were eager to try the salted caramel ice cream. We'd had Trader Joe's seasonal dark chocolate sea salted caramels and loved them, and had made Ina Garten's fleur de sel caramels, loved them too. So when we got to bi-rite, because of the long line we figured just order a double of the salted caramel, how could it be anything but fantastic? Well.....it didn't taste anything like the salted caramel we'd come to know and love. It tasted like burnt sugar, or dark molasses. Kind of bitter, not salty, nothing like we expected. Cute place though, and great texture to the ice cream. Just be sure to get those free tastes, no matter how many people behind you are staring daggers at you. Or go to Humphrey Slocumbe for a slower pace and truly inventive flavors. We loved that place! Pros: smooth and creamy ice cream, great macaroons Cons: long lines make you feel guilty about asking for tastes more

the best ice cream in the city 11/19/2008

Bi-Rite is worth walking to the park (even on a cloudy day) and standing in line for a solid 30 minutes. Taste a few of their unusual, refeshing flavors before you commit to just a few, and then go hang out in the park. Bi-Rite + Tartine, just down the street, is a killer combo -- good for the soul. Pros: incredible flavors, cheerful people more

Very good ice cream with good environmental practices 5/27/2008

The ice cream here was very good, make no mistake, and if you are in favor of environmentally sound practices like sustainability and like the use of organic and locally sourced ingredients, you will like this place even more. My wife and I went out here on the recommendation of Citysearch and were not disappointed. It is a tiny little place where people were lined up out the door. There was an exotic selection of flavors, like Balsamic Strawberry and Cardamom Orange, which are all made in small batches using mostly organic ingredients. Their plates and spoons are recyclable and they use only real metal spoons for samples so as to not create waste. The ice cream was delicious. I myself enjoyed a sundae with homemade brownie chunks, FRESH whipped cream (it comes in a dollop, not from a can with compressed air), fresh berry compote and 2 scoops of ice cream. Very tasty. The location is a bit dicey, at least at night and getting there can be an issue if you are coming from Union Square, Nob Hill, or any of that area, as we had to take the BART to 16th street and walk a few blocks, but it is not impossible. Pros: Creamy, fresh ice cream, organic ingredients, very friendly staff, variety of flavors Cons: Location is a minor pain to get to and is not the best after dark more

best ice cream ever 5/4/2008

I lOVE their ICE CREAM. My all time favorite is the Smore's ice cream pie. I cannot get enough of this\r stuff. They use a graham cracker crust, chocolate ice cream, caramel and a marshmallow meringue\r toping. There ice cream is made with the purest ingredients. It is creamy and flavorful. The strawberry\r is unlike any other. Finally an ice cream that doesn't have that nasty artificial flavor. In addition to ice cream,\r they have freshly baked goods. YUM YUM! Cookies, pies, brownies etc. Who needs MAGNOLIA in New York. Great staff, service, prices and location. Pros: delicious. creamy. flavorful. service. cleanliness. environmentally friendly. more

Gourmet Ice Cream 6/30/2007

How is it that this place doesn't have more reviews? It's ice cream heaven. Seriously good ice cream. Forget the toppings, or the sauce, or even the cone. Just go for the ice cream straight out of the bowl. The flavors, like ""salted caramel"" and ""honey lavendar"" are utterly amazing. This is ice cream for grown ups! Pros: Worth the wait in line Cons: Disorganized, uninterested counter staff more

Rediculously Awesome 2/9/2007

We were so excited for this place to finally open after peering in the windows for months! The icecream at this place is amazing and the icecream cakes are unbelievable! Highly recommend! more
