Prior moving into a BexarMet Water District serviced home I was a San Antonio Water System customer for years. I did my home work on things like Utility rates, local businesses and schools prior to buying the new home but never thought to look into the water company. BAD MOVE.\r
\r
After moving into the new home I saw my water bill more than double as compared to what the same water usage was with SAWS. I called BexarMet's support and had a VERY RUDE customer service rep IGNORE my requests to explain the surcharges and bogus ""System Improvement Fee"" charges that seemed to NOT be about my actual water usage. I was also told of an upcoming (July 1st 2008) rate increase of nearly %14 on ALL fees that would make my future bills even higher.\r
\r
According to DrinkTap Organization, the ""average 2 story household water use annually is 177,400 gallons"". And with the new rate increase from BexarMet that means the average Monthly water bill for a BexarMet customer will be around $110 per month JUST FOR WATER. That is almost DOUBLE what smaller communities around San Antonio pay for the same amount of water, and a %40 premium over SAWS.\r
\r
Plus, look online for ""BexarMet corruption"" in Google and you will see plenty of news articles on reported ABUSES IN PRICING, CORRUPTION AND BRIBE CHARGES and more from past and current BexarMet Board Members.\r
\r
If you are looking to add $600 more a year your home bills, then move into BexarMet serviced home, if not, then stay in a SAWS or other municipality water district!
Cons: Overcharge to fill pockets of Board Members' bonuses
