Worst

The guys there are fairly knowledgable about their fire arms. But 25% of the cost of a transferred gun is just out of mind. It's sure not a good way to attract customers...

I've shopped at Benson's for about three years now. I've purchased three rifles from them and have always been treated professionally and respectfully. You may have to wait a couple of minutes to be helped but what would one expect. They've shown and explained any thing I needed. I think the negative pieces are isolated incidents and I do think that some of the customers may be full of themselves. Most gun shop workers in some places like to act like tough guys but not at Benson's. My friends and I recommend them. Happy shooting.... more

My fiancee purchased her first shotgun 6/8/2012

My fiancee purchased her first shotgun from Benson's..The staff were excellent,polite,experienced..They even have a gunsmith on hand..Yes the prices are a little high..She too had a problem with the gun..She took it home,as she was taking it apart a piece of steel actually broke clean from the I believe the trigger housing..Anyways we were disappointed but they immediately took it back,the smith fixed it and was in her hands the next day...Great store overall more

Nice Store...Very Nice Staff 7/21/2011

I recently purchased a handgun from Joe over at Bensons and was very happy with the service. All these negative reviews are a mystery to me. Everyone behind the counter (4 different people when I was There) was courteous and friendly. Prices are on the high side; but all local businesses are trying to make a living in this economy. Plus I like to support local shops and by the time you buy off the net and pay transfer fees, S & H and NY Sales Tax they are right in line with everyone else. My advice is to give Bensons a try and see for yourself...Huge selection of new and used guns, tons of ammo and just about anything ele you could want. These negative reviews are way off base ...% Sars For Bensons....Big Jeff more

They go out of their way to give you personal service 7/18/2011

I have now moved three guns to my son, Navy Pilot to Pensacola and they were great about it. They have a great staff and I have been going there for years. They can get busy, thus, you have to be patient. However, they will get what ever you need, and have great knowledge. more

Bad customer service 6/25/2011

Went to check out some pistols looking at the display, firstly most, not all, guns were highly overpriced. the people who worked there seem to know what they were doing. and that was not helping the customer. (me) i walk in and not even a friendly ""hi"" i ask for some help and was totally ignored by the manager. so after a look around the store i left. that day there were only around 4 people in the store 5 including me and only 2 people were being assisted all the other employees pretended i wasnt even standing there. i dont know what that was about but i dont think ill be going back anytime soon. spend your money elsewhere. they treated me with no respect at all. cant even get a reply when i siply said good morning. more

Nice Place 4/10/2011

I noticed several negative reviews that cite high prices. I just ordered a very nice rifle from Benson's, and while the price was not as low as I would have liked, the alternative would have been to order the item online. A friend of mine also purchased a rifle from Benson's; while we were at the range he had a problem with the rifle, but when next i saw him, he said that the gentlemen at Benson's were very helpful and that he was happy with the service. That is why I chose to pay a little more; I know if I have a problem, that I can go back to the shop and expect help. Furthermore, the ammo prices I have seen are very good, the staff is knowledgeable, and I have not once had the feeling that the staff works poorly with customers. more

Nice Place 3/31/2011

What's with a bad review? I went in there a week ago as a new customer just looking around and asking questions, well Joe took his time with me and showed me a few pistols I had an interest in. I went back this past weekend and purchased a Kimber, which they put away for me till I had the purchase document on Monday. I dealt with 3 different people during the process and all of them treated me very well. I also did my research and found their prices to be less than MSRP and not just by a couple of bucks. more

NOPE NEVER AGAIN! 12/16/2010

First off as a Marine im familiar with firearms. If you want to be made to feel like an idiot this is a good place to go. Besides there GROSSLY over priced guns and accessories their gunsmith charges 3x as much as Hunter Sports over in Massapequa. And at least there they have manners and will spend time to show you different options as far as what your price range might be! Oh and They know what there talking about, I brought a Yankee Hill free float forend down to Bensons and they looked at it like some sorta high tech piece! Are you Kiding?! and then try to charge me $300 to install?! No thank you, Im not stupid. Yes they are local to me but ill drive to Chesters or Hunters. NEVER BENSONS! more

I had a great experience there. I bought my first gun last week. I went in about a month prior just to look and ask questions. The guy seemed very knowledgable about guns and made recommendations to me based on my needs. Went back a second time with a little more knowledge and bought a gun. Fairly easy process. Good service. I didn not have the same experience as the guys who wrote the bad review about the staff having bad attitudes. more

Benson's is Best 10/6/2010

I've been buying pistols from Bensons since the early 80s. I have lived in Suffolk County since August 1951. I have been to every gun shop on Long Island and the level of service at Bensons is unsurpassed. The owners are the most knowledgeable gun dealers I've met. They have the best selection of guns and supplies in all of Suffolk. No nonsense when utilizing their FFL transfer services and their employees go above and beyond when I'm driving them crazy with questions. See Joe when you go, Bensons is Best !! more

wonderful experience 9/3/2010

I had dealt with Bensons before buying shotguns and ammo. I now have my pistol license and went to look at a pistol. The help was friendly and very informative. I am glad i had dealt with them before, because some of the negative reviews might have turned me off.. the gentleman that the reviews are referring to is no longer with Bensons and for good reason. in my opinion I wouldn't go anywhere else to buy my guns or rifles. more

The Worst 9/2/2010

I went to get ammo at this shop and the service was horrible. They had an attitude problem and they seemed like they weren't interested in my business. I will never go back to that Benson's again. It's close to where I live and I would rather drive an hour and go somewhere else than go to this shop again. more

I went in there last week. I dont know one thing about a gun besides looking at prices online and that I want a military looking gun. They were very patient and helpful. Answered all my questions. Bought a AR15 at a price that was cheaper then anything i saw online. Was scepticale about comming here from reviews below. I would ignore them. I would go there again. going there for over 20yrs 11/18/2009

have bought most of my firearms from this dealer. it is family run. Bensons prices are fair and in line or better then most on long Island. They also stand behind there products. Pros: good selection more
