A couple of years ago we had to have a new roof put on our house. The guy that usually does our roofing was totally booked up and we were in a rush to get the new roof.
My husband made a few contacts and asked for roofers to come out an give us estimates. One particular man came out and measured, got on the roof and looked at the existing roof. He gave my husband an estimate. After what we thought was CAREFUL consideration, we called this guy back and set a date for the roofing to be done by him. I don't remember what he called his business (business name) but his personal name is Charles Beaudoin. We found his listing in the phone book along with the statement that all work was guaranteed. He appeared to be professional enough.
He came out with his crew and stripped the old roof off, put down new felt and flashing then the new roof. Everything looked really good.
The next week, we had to go out of town for several days. It rained a good bit while we were gone.
We returned home and immediately found our ceiling in our den sagging and wet. Our sofa was sitting directly under this huge spot and was ruined from the leaking roof. Looking the house over, we found about 5 other places throughout the house where the roof had leaked.
Early the next morning my husband called this roofer and he promised to send one of his workers out to look at the problem. The guy that came out said that they would come back and fix the roof. They came back and did something then left in just a short while.
The next rain came and we had more leaks. We were unable to get in touch with the roofer again.
We had our usual roofer come out and re do the roof for us. No more problems, It was a professional job.
We tried to make contact with this roofer, Charles Beaudoin, to make him pay for the re-roofing job. Everytime we called his phone we got put off... then they blocked our phone where we could not call them. We happened to be in the lumber store one day and saw him. We waited outside for him to come out and then we cornered him. He wrote a note saying that he would pay $1,000 in damages to us in 3 installments. With the dates of payments noted. He signed and dated the paper and my husband signed
it also. My husband made him give us two phone numbers (he only had cell phone service). To make sure he had given us the correct number, we called the phones while he was standing there. They were working.
Charles Beaudoin came by our home the next week and brought $300 in cash. This was written on the note and signed by my husband as receiving. After a couple of months we had not heard back from Charles and called him. He promised to come by on Friday and make another payment. He didn't. This went on and on. We have gotten $700. from him and he still owes us $300. We can not get him to pay the rest.
No matter how professional someone looks or acts, get references and check them out. There are just too many unprofessionals out there. And by all means do not call on Charles Beaudoin for any work..... He does not stand behind his work.
