Disappointing 11/30/2006

This is the only zoo in Connecticut and it so small and very very disappointing. You can see the whole zoo in about an one hour time. The only highlight of the zoo is the tigers which are always a delight to watch. You can peacocks wandering in the zoo which is pretty. It is entertaining for smaller kids who are excited even to see a horse. The farm yard is pretty okay as children get to see animals you find in farms. The price of admission is not cheap either at about $9 per person over the age of 3. The zoo is crowded on weekends(I really don't know how). Very disappointing, but small kids with enjoy strolling outdoors. http://www.beardsleyzoo.com/ more

Ok - small but friendly atmosphere 4/5/2006

This zoo used to be a big dissapointment (to be honest I'm not a huge fan of zoo's to begin with) but my kids wanted to go so we went and they've changed quite a bit. Parking was packed and there's a little bit of a walk if you can't get a good space..long lines on the particular warm day that we visited. Gift shop is extremely pricey as well as the food. My advise..pack a lunch..avoid the gift shop, check out the carasoul and don't expect this to be an all day affair..the zoo is small and sometimes there aren't any animals in the exhibits..but it's a day out and the little ones do enjoy it. Weekdays are quieter and less crowded and noisy as weekends are a little too hectic for toddlers (overwhelming). more

Nice zoo for an afternoon visit 11/13/2005

I have takenmy toddler to this zoo several times over the summer and she always enjoyed herself.! The zoo is small, but anything larger I think may overwhelm her. It's the perfect for her attention span. We always stop for a picnic lunch and a ride on the carousel. If you do go to this zoo, a carousel ride is a must more

Great family fun 10/1/2005

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to spend the day with your family, try this great zoo in Bridgeport. Admission prices are under $8 and there is so much to do there. You can even have a party or corporate or private even there if you want. There are always events going on and they are open everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. They have so many different animal exhibits, a greenhouse, carousel and plenty of bathrooms. Ample parking, and you'll find dining within the park. more

WORTH A DAY TRIP 9/6/2005

THIS IS A SMALL BUT VERY NICE ZOO. IT IS VERY SHADY WHICH IS NICE ON HOTTER DAYS. ANIMALS RANGE FROM PIGS & CHICKENS TO BEARS & A TIGER. PEACOCKS ROAM THE PARK FREELY. CUTE INDOOR CAROUSEL. FOOD IS A LITTLE EXPENSIVE SO I WOULD PACK SOME SNACKS. LARGE PARKING AREAS FILL QUICKLY. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY TO SEE IF PASS IS AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL. more

Beardsley Zoo is fun 8/22/2005

The Beardsley Zoo is a fun place to go if you don't feel like driving all the way to the Bronx. Although they don't have a huge selection of animals at the Bearsdley Zoo, it makes for a nice 2 hour visit. They have these animals called Capibarras that are pretty cool, they are like huge rats. They also have the otters which are kind of cool to watch. And they have a merry go round for the kids, which they always enjoy. more

Local Zoo 8/21/2005

This is a great local zoo that has a reindeer come at Christmas time. It is open year round and sponsors special events throughout the year. It is reasonable priced and you can buy a season pass. The zoo is located within a great park where you can go and picinic before or after the zoo experience. A great family trip. Dont forget to visit the carousel while you are there. more

Quick and fun 8/20/2005

The Beardsley Zoo may not be as large as the Bronx Zoo, but its still plenty of fun. The grounds are well maintained and clean. The zoo is organized by the habitat in which you would find the animal. While you won't find hundreds of animals here there's certainly enough to keep you entertained for an afternoon. And don't forget to stop into the greenhouse. There are many beautiful and interesting plants of all varieties. more

Much Improved 8/16/2005

I'm a mom of 2 preschoolers I joined the Beardsley Zoo as something to get the kids out of the house. When we joined in Aug 2003 it was ok, not great, a little worn and shabby, more of a place to let the kids run around and ride the Merry go round a couple of times. Well we returned August 2005 before our 2nd annual membership ran out and the improvements made are VERY noticeable. There is just a more cheerful pride to the place, the Merry go round is refurbished, the picnic area has been spruced up, the new Aviary is really pretty, and the soon to be done wolf observation area looks impressive. This zoo in the past has looked a little tired and sad but now it looks like it has turned around for the better. We'll be back. more

Great Zoo! 8/13/2005

Beardley Zoo is a great learning experience for people of all ages. You wouldn't think that Bridgeport CT would have a great zoo, but it does. It has a lot of animals which aren't native to this area and provide a great learning experience for those of us who don't know a lot about them. It provides a great learning experience for group tours, summer camps and individual visitors. You can tell that the animals are treated nicely and have a large amount of space to move and live in. The staff is very helpful and know a great deal of information on the animals in their facility. more

Beardsley Zoo 8/7/2005

This is the only zoo in Connecticut. It can be fun as long as your expectations are not held too high. The animals are often non- existent within the exhibits or very well hidden. The farm area is very nice for the younger kids as the animals are close to the fence and easy to see. The peacocks wandering the zoo are always a lot of fun. The snack bar food is pretty tasty and there is a large picnic area to eat. The souvenir shop is overpriced like most are. In addition, admission is quite expensive. Overall, it can be a lot of fun! more
