Not the best place to go for BBQ 3/3/2011

I have never written a review before about a restaurant but I had to because it was the worst BBQ I have ever had. My husband and I went there and we wasted $27.00. We ordered brisket, ribs, turkey and 2 sides. We could not eat anything. The ribs were so fatty, and salty I could not even bite into them. The brisket was 80 % FAT, we got our food tried to eat it and left not too long after. No one even came to see how our meal was. We are not chain restaurant people and were very excited about having a good BBQ experience, That was not it. We have had BBQ in many states and this was the worst. more

Good food, horrible wait... 5/25/2008

The food is excellent. The service is good. The place itself is great. Dining for 3 hours and 45 minutes was shocking and made the experience not so great. Each new course takes 25-30 minutes. Not sure we'd return because of this. Pros: food Cons: too much time in between courses, expensive more

Beware the nay sayers! This place is incredible. 11/13/2007

This restaurant is touted as one of the finest in the state...believe it. My wife and I went to the Cookery for a special occasion and we were not disappointed, we were in awe. We came up from the cities for a midweek get away, and kicked it off with a trip to the Cookery. We had the most wonderful time. The staff did a beautiful job arranging the special event, and the food was amazing. This is a place were food is transformed into art. The flavors and textures create compositions. What people need to understand is that the chef is not simply cooking, this is about creating a sensual experience for your palate, so full of originality and creativity that you will want to shake his hand by the time dinner is over. I have read some of the reviews and I am surprised that people are taken aback by the prices. Is it not indicated, clear as day, on the web what dinner a dinner can cost? Isn't the 3,5,& 9 course dining all clearly priced? Total disclosure is what I recall. It is well worth the price for such a delicious experience. Pros: Regional ingredients, changing menus, innovative creations, and fine wine list. Cons: Distance. more

PErfect for a special occasion 11/20/2006

The food is incredible. The menu changes with the season, we were there for the garlic menu. My girlfriend does not eat meat except for fish and they were happy to accommodate. We did 5 coures paired with wine. Each course they brought a new glass of wine. The service was what it should be for this kind of restaurant. Pros: The food Cons: The price more

Amazing food 8/3/2006

one of the more pleasurable dining experiences we've had in the cities - Amazing quality of food - European pacing with excellent wine pairings for each course - we never felt rushed and could enjoy each and every taste sensation the kitchen popped our way - highly recommended, even with the drive! Pros: excellent food, great wine pairings more

Not worth the price. 4/7/2006

I have been to the "Cookery" in the past, back when Kirk was the chef and the food was worth every dollar. If the wine paring dinner, 5 coarse, was $55 it would have been worth it. But, when they charge an extra $30 for the wine to go with the food it is not. The food was above average but, not the knock your sensations out that they use to have. Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Too expensive more

Mushroom night 3/7/2006

We took our 15 year old daughter to this restaurant for the morel mushroom feast. The food was GREAT! BUT-ambiance??? We sat by a drafty door-in the middle of a room FULL of people-could you get any more in there?? Nice idea of having theme dinners. I would gladly pay $75-$90 per person for a full dinner and wine BUT not with 30-45 people staring over my shoulder. Pros: Food, wine pairings Cons: crowded, overpriced more

It's all about quality. 2/8/2006

Disregard previous viewer's comments. They are irrelevant to what is happening at Bayport Cookery this year! more

anniversary 10/16/2004

Well it was our 5th year anniversary, and we had the worst experience in our lives. Expecting to wow my wife we I ended up with a lighter wallet and worst an empty stomach! Our silverware was dirty, our meals came out slower than Dennys, and my wifes main dish came out uncooked and mine was as hard as a rock. After telling the server about it, 20mins later he brought us another dish with a look of hate on his face as if we were to blame. As for dessert, just skip it and go home! Our bill was $135.00! We stoppep at a fast food restaurant on the way home............... Pros: romantic, parking Cons: , small portions more

This review is long overdue 10/28/2003

This is a review of the Pacific Rim menu that was presented for the first time at Bayport during April. The menu was mostly seafood and some sushi. Before this meal the thought of sushi was enough to make me think twice about eating anything that came from the sea. However chef Jim Kyndberg completely changed the way I looked at seafood and I absolutely can not wait to return. Thanks for the incredible experience. Pros: worth the trip, top food, excellent service more

hgp 8/25/2003

We went there in July for the first time and can't wait to go back again. The food was excellent, everything was flavorfull and exciting. Service was nicely paced out. We arrived a few minutes late, when the first course was being served and the waiter did not rush through trying to catch up with the other tables. This is the way fine dining should be, one sitting for the entire evening. Pros: great food, great wine pairing Cons: only one menu per mo. more

Great Pairing of food and Wine 7/1/2003

We visited Bayport for the first time yesterday. We definitely will return. We had an excellent Mediterranean 5 course dinner paired with wine that was fabulous. The wines matched the food perfectly. Each course was presented beautifully and the taste matched the presentation. The portions were just right with 5 courses, there is plenty of food so you go away feeling satisfied not stuffed. You really need to check out the menu before you decide on making reservations. If the menu does not interest you, check their web site again in a month or so. If possible, go to dinner during the week. On a Tuesday evening, there were only five or six tables occupied. The restaurant has a small dining area in a small building just off of Hwy 95. Nice white lined tablecloths, but I would not call it romantic. They are a member of I-dine. Pros: Great Food/Wine, Dine during the week Cons: Average Ambiance, Expensive, Not with kids more

A long way to drive for not a lot 3/6/2003

We had been told that this was one of the best restaurants in the state. For some reason, the lighting was turned down, creating an interesting ambience. We arrived on time and then waited a long time for our food. All courses were described eloquently by our server, but the food usually disappointed. At over $70 a head, it was an interesting experience, but not one i could recommend. If your looking for good seafood try Oceanaire, Aquavite or McCormick & Schmick. Cons: Expensive more

Worth the Drive! 1/1/2003

Although quite the jaunt from our home (about 35 miles) Bayport was definitely worth the drive. Ties with Goodfellow's for the quality and inventiveness of their food but is a much better value. We recommend doing Bayport's wine pairing with each course. They do a nice job of pairing the food and wine together. Ambiance is very quaint and cozy - a perfect place for a romantic, low-key evening. Portions are pretty good sized, although if you are a big eater you might go away wanting more. In our opinion, one of the top 5 restaurants in the Twin Cities! more

Dining for hours. 9/11/2002

Anything that involves eating for hours has got my vote. The menu is creative and the food is good. Very cozy, intimate atmosphere. Great wait staff. Worth the money. more

Excellent!!!! 8/24/2002

Excellent service, atmosphere and food! Have been there for three different menus and plan to go back again and again. The experience is well worth the drive and definitely worth the money. Pros: Price, Wine pairings, Atmosphere more

Superb! Exquisite! Romantic! 7/7/2002

This little gem that had previously gone undetected by my radar impressed the socks off me this past weekend! When making the reservation, I requested a veg/seafood course for myself and a purely veg (altho not vegan) course for my sig other, to which the Cookery folks graciously acquiesced. The portions might seem small to most folks' Old-Country-Buffet mentality of eating, but this dinner was all about quality and just-right amounts. The veg'n offerings were fab little creations all of their own, not at all having that entree-minus-the-meat feel that so irrita, and the seaford was superb! And romantic? Absolutely - intimate and small, dimly lit and warm atmosphere! I'd drive 100 miles to eat there again! Pros: Fabulous food, Uncrowded, Menu changes more
