Wonderful Little Joint 8/27/2009

My wife and I were at a serious loss as to wear we would go for our 10th anniversary. We happened to drive out to this small German town in the middle of no-where Oregon, and we were treated to a wonderful symphony of German food and beer. Couldn't have had a better time if we planned it. This place would make Luther himself want to come back to earth. It's too bad they don't have a good German Reformed church in the area, or we might consider moving there. Pros: Best German Food and Beer I've Ever Had Cons: No Cons About It! more

Absolutely Worth the Drive 2/22/2009

We have had multiple experiences at the Bavarian Haus, all were very good. Two times we had a group of about 15, and two other times it was just a group of two. The service has always been great with exceptionally friendly servers. And the food was awesome, good portions and great taste! On a sunny day, go dine outside with a cold Dopplebock beer. Or on a rainy day, go inside and have some comfort food. Either way, you will not be disappointed with your experience at the Bavarian Haus! Pros: Great food, excellent German beer, fantastic service Cons: In a rural area (beautiful drive though) more

not worth the drive 12/2/2008

I travel all over the world and love German food. The food was ok, but the service was slow. It looks they have done some updates but has a long ways to go. Not a romantic place or kid friendly. Not worth the drive from Portland. more

A wonderful escape to ""Old Germany."" 6/25/2008

I spent 35 years as a soldier in the United States Army. My wife and I and our children were fortunate to spend nearly 17 of those years in Germany. Now we are more than fortunate to be living in the beautiful village of Mount Angel in Oregon. A very special joy of living in Germany those many years were the wonderful country Gasthauses (restaurants). In Mount Angel we have the Bavarian Haus Restaurant and Pub. It is Mount Angel?s oldest German restaurant located in the center of town. The Bavarian Haus prepares and serves the best German meals this side of the Atlantic. Their menu features 7 ?Old World? type schnitzels, sauerbraten and a wide array of other authentic German meals with all the Bavarian fixings. If you can?t afford to go to Germany this year, head down to Mount Angel for a reasonably priced German lunch or dinner served with great German beers and wines. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Charming atmosphere, great food, lots of available parking. Cons: Everything is cooked to order, don't be in a great rush. more

My compliments to the chef---went there once before but went back again and the food keeps improving more

....and we're always glad we came! 1/4/2008

Love this place! My girlfriend and I stumbled across the Bavarian Haus when driving back from the Tulip Festival last spring. I was starved and a little cranky from romping around in the mud and was really ready for a good meal, and these people really delivered! The service was fast, friendly and professional. The food was hot and prompt. My favorite has become the German Platter, great sausages, CIDER kraut, (not the stinky kind!) and great German Fried Potatos. There is an excellent selection of beer to go with this really affordable plate ($8 or $9) and lots of other delicious items on the menu. Try the Killer Bread! We've been back several times. The waitresses now know our names and we are greeted as if we walked into ""Cheers!"" It's a great place to bring friends and we love taking credit for finding this jewel on our own! more

ALPINE CHICKEN & SCHNITZEL DUJOUR 10/15/2007

I live in East County and the drive is well worth the travel which also includes a most beautiful scenic drive along the way. On different occassions I chose ""Alpine Chicken"" and the ""Schnitzel DuJour"". Most excellent. Not only were these dishes very tasty, the food was hot, presentation superb all delivered to your table with great service. Don't forget the dessert, must try try the Apple Strudel. The atmosphere was great, casual and comfortable. I have to give this restaurant a ""10"" I'm looking forward to going again very soon. I have to say, with all honesty, this now is my favorite German Restaurant. Enjoy! more

""Handcrafted German Food"" 10/9/2007

Chef Rottner gets it right in Mt. Angel. This restaurant / pub is a must try and worth a trip from Portland, Salem and the surrounding communities. Last evening I tried the homemade tomato soup ahead of a delightful tasting, beautiful wiener schnitzel veal cutlet generously flavored in a wonderful mushroom sauce. (Other varieties are available, in addition to a full menu complete with many tasty offerings). The brother duo has added striking touches to the lounge creating a welcoming atmosphere that is friendly and calming. I enjoyed a glass of Cabernet with dinner, which was a nice compliment and provided for a great finish. I'll have to go back for the apple strudel they offered... I simply did not want to remove the lingering plentiful flavors from dinner, at the time it was offered. I later regretted not taking some to go! more

German food and friendly atosmosphere 10/8/2007

I love this place but to be honest these guys are my brothers-but trust me I love to eat. The alpine chicken is one of the best chicken dishes I have ever eaten. Thought this was a special request for my birthday and is not at this time on the menue the beer cheese soup was great ,I'm told it is occasionaly a daily special. As i was visiting for two weeks from Florida I got to sample many items all were very good. The atmosphere in this establishment was so friendly, the local stop by and offer a hello and goodby to all.If you are lucky enough become a regular it's like stopping by home for a quick snack or a special family meal, after all the guys running the place are family. more
