YUM! 1/31/2009

Nothing more to say than Batch has the best cupcakes around. I love cupcakes and think the ones here are the most unique and the tastiest. Forget those horrible Magnolia cupcakes that not only do you have to wait on a line (for cupcakes, no less), but they taste like one big bowl of sugar. Check these out when you are in the West Village. You won't be sorry. And also, great espresso. more

Delicious Fun! 6/11/2008

This place rocks! Punk rock decor (and music!) with gorgeous crystal chandeliers and brightly colored walls. But it's not the room that is the draw here. Go with a group and try everything! From delicious whimsical style layer mousse cakes to not-too-sweet cupcakes and chocolates with really intense exotic flavors. The puddings are to die for. With so many to choose, from Thai Tea Tiramisu to Ovaltine-Banana Pudding to Meyer Lemon Huckleberry Tarts, best to have something there and buy home for later! This is a great addition to a neighborhood. Pros: Affordable, Not Too Sweet, Quaint Cons: Small Place, Can Get Crowded at Times more

Innovative, Drool-worthy, Affordable Desserts 4/16/2008

I had a much better experience than Phil at Batch, just last night after a dinner at P*ong. I went because it's cheaper to have dinner at Batch than at P*ong. It's pink and bright with chandeliers inside, and Gary, the manager, is very amicable. I had a chance to take in the scene while enjoying my Ovaltine pudding. A woman asked if Passover macaroons would be available, and one of the owners said that they would think about it, even though they normally don't do it. An elderly lady walked in commenting on how she had heard Pichet, the pastry chef, on the radio that morning, and was given a free cookie. Tourists from San Francisco had opted for Batch instead of Magnolia to avoid the long lines. My pudding was delicious, with banana, chocolate, and crunchie crispies, and the atmosphere was great. Very cute bakery. Pros: Extremely cute, brand-new bakery, run almost entirely by an Asian staff Cons: Prices were higher than I liked, but then the treats were very delicious. more

Delicious desserts and fun decor 4/16/2008

Yeah I totally agree, I had a completely different experience at batch. He actually opened it up for me when it was closed, he was literally counting the money and let me run in and buy some cupcakes. Which, were SO GOOD. My other favorites were the ovaltine and banana pudding (amazing), it had real banana at the bottom with a chocolate dusting and then krispy treats on top. soo good, the coffee cake is also to die for as is the banana loaf. Basically, everything there is soo good! more

  • In Short
A satellite of next-door neighbor P*Ong, chef Pichet Ong's raspberry-hued takeout shop proffers cupcakes, cookies, puddings, ice cream and sweets of all kinds singly or en masse, as the name suggests. Expect classics, like devils food cupcakes and chocolate hazelnut layer cake, and some unexpected flavors, like Thai tea tiramisu pudding, along with the chef signatures like Ovaltine ice cream. But the desserts are just the icing on the cake: Savory sandwiches and box lunches, are available, too.
