Protect you and yours by avoiding battle 10/5/2011

If you want to be educated on how to protect yourself and your loved ones, go to Barrett Hapkido in Margate. If you want to pay way more money just for something that you can show off on your resume and your kids' college application, this school is not for you. The spirit of Hapkido is practical, real-world self-defense and empowering you with the presence of mind to avoid all unnecessary confrontations. Master Barrett offers both. If you can convince your attackers that your fancy credentials can protect your family from danger, why bother training at all at any school? more

Dont fall for it! 9/29/2011

WARNING Not all instructors have earned the belt level that they claim to have. Ask the instructor to show proof of their belt level a true rank certificate will be from the martial arts country of origin. Some instructors will make up their own art and name themselves 9th or 10th degree black belts without accreditation. These instructors are called pseudo masters fake belt ranked masters and can do more harm than good by teaching improper technique. After get you get through all the smoke and mirrors from this guy dont be afraid to ask questions about his qualifications and training ask if has verifiable proof. Unfortunatley the state of Florida doesnt require a martial arts instructor to have proof of training certifications. Your only protecting yourself by asking for proof. more

We have Moved... 3/8/2011

Since i can not reach City Search to correct this information i would like to clear up a few things for City Search Members. We have not been in Pompano Beach for sometime. Our School is located at 1799 N.State Rd. 7 (441) in Margate,33063. We are in Suite #8 at the rear of the complex. There is a Fight Group at the old 2480 Hammondville address which has caused some confusion, but they are not affiliated with Barrett Hapkido. Visitors are always welcome and i invite you to come see what we actually do. Our listing in the online AT&T Yellow Pages (YP) is current for additional info. or look for us on Facebook under Barrett Hapkido. (954)917-0488 more

Barrett Hapkido 9/30/2010

I spent enough time in this school in order to express my opinion. Excellent Sabunim and his instructors. Very efficient teaching. Noon classes are quite intense, great workout. Not overcrowded. I can't understand those folks leaving nasty reviews. I doubt they even tried the class, probably watching through the window, may be a wrong one. I think if you are really practicing Martial Arts, you are improving not only your muscles, techniques but Mind as well. Unfortunately, those unhappy folks never grew up from white belt. And decent Black Belt would never go so low with those silly remarks. more

Agree, HORRIBLE SCHOOL 11/23/2009

I have trained at this school and while I learned how to fight I did not in any way learn Hapkido. Do your research on Hapkido before going to this school. Check out Master Allen school and speak with him about Mater Barrett. Educate yourself prior to going to this school. Ask Master Barrett to verify/show you his teaching credentials...oh wait he has none. Don't waste your money. Can I give anything less than a star? 1/4 of a star? Pros: um, good cardio Cons: Not HAPKIDO more

WORST SCHOOL EVER !!!!! 12/30/2008

THE CHEAPEST IMITATION OF A MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL I HAVE EVER SEEN. I WOULDN'T SEND MY WORST ENEMY THERE! Pros: EASY TO FIND Cons: WORST MARTIAL ARTS I HAVE EVER SEEN, EVER. more

This school is a Farce 9/28/2008

The instructor has no certification in Hapkido. He teaches a really poor combination of tae kwon do and aikido. He also has ""little man syndrome"" allowing his runaway ego to over compensate for his obvious lack of confidence. Pros: its cheap Cons: you get less than what you pay for more

Don't believe the hype at this school. 8/22/2007

I have trained at this school to try it out. This is not an attempt to destroy reputation but open truth. There are much better schools than this school. Don't waste you time and money. Really and honestly. It is full of ego. The instructor has no black belt certification and no proof of his supposed instructor or instructors. I got out of every techniuqe with ease. The above remarks were made by students not ""satified customers"". I did a lot of research on hapkido and I did not see real hapkido here at all. I saw a school of posers. Full of ego and testoterone. The children were violent and mean. I do not know where other hapkido schools are but this in NOT one of them. Horrible instruction and weak technique. THe instructor contantly contradicted himself. So did the students. I left confused and feeling angry. Like I WANTED to hurt seomone and for no reason. I said all I have to say for now. Pros: They like to fight Cons: All around a horrible school. more

Effective school of the arts, not a fluff academy 5/14/2006

I have been to many schools and all have had their value. This school outranks them all. It teaches martial arts as an art, not as a stock commodity. You learn practical applications for the skills they teach, not just one end of the spectrum (such as just to earn points in a competition, or how to maime). The students come from all ages (5 - 65) and all walks of life (Lawyer, Police (City, Sheriff, Prison Guard, etc.), Student, Insurance Salesperson, Homemaker, Electrician, Retail Staff, Video Rental Store Staff, etc.). Therefore you get experience with all types types, as they say in the school motto, ""Strength Through Each Other"". Oh and to add to it all, there are no contracts, no belt test fees, and it is the least expensive school around as they don't spend a fortune on fancy mirrors, and unrealistic weapons, etc. My son goes too. Pros: Practical, Real Life, Good Workout Cons: Hard Work more

Awsome 5/2/2006

I personaly have been around to many schools within my area, and I have seen no other school more benificial. I have been training for 2 years and hapkido has helped me on several occasions. I plan to continue and encourage many other people to at least come out and see what we do. Pros: Useful in life, learn to fall, Great training more
