Editorial review from Citysearch 12/15/2012

As a place to shop, its a lot of fun to walk around and take in a wide variety of vendors. As a place to vend, its got a pretty awful track history for new vendors. The office is prone to accounting errors, double selling tables, selling tables for the wrong dates, and follows a very strict 'Our way or GTFO' policy, even when they are knowingly in the wrong. Our personal experience involved going in to rent a table. At 11:30 on Sunday, we went in to rent a table for Next Saturday, specifying the date, the fact that we had to get merchandise ready, and being told repeatedly that we had to be here and be set up BY 9am or our table could be resold. So we arrived next Saturday by around 8:45, got set up, I left my wife for the day (Night shift employee, went to get home and get sleep before picking her up), only to get home and be called to come pick her up immediately. Apparently they had resold our table, and claimed our purchase was made for last week. The vendor who showed up at 10 was willing to wait for her to call her ride (Me), while the Barnyard employee told her she had to move her property IMMEDIATELY. That's when she was told by the vendors on either side of her that this had happened to them both at least once before. Infuriated, I returned and spoke with them, and they refused to make any concession of possible mistake until I pointed out the time of purchase for the table and how ridiculous their claim (That we bought a table for the same day when it was already over halfway through) was. Still refusing to admit it was their own error, they at first told me to leave (admittedly I had some choice words), and then told me they could reschedule. We WILL not be going through this crap again, and so, since it was obvious error on their part, a refund was in order. Naturally, this brought up the 'GTFO' portion of the above listed policy. TL;DR Version: Great if you've been there long enough that they know you, crap for new small businesses, and under sloppy and infuriatingly thick skulled management. Vendors beware. more

Really Fair !!!NOT!!!! 12/6/2012

You must be one his brown nosing buddies, He always has an attitude (short mans complex ) and is clueless as to how to treat loyal customers that pay rent on time and bring weekend traffic to the Columbia Market. The vendors are who the crowd comes to see not Him!!! He is losing vendors left and right and no longer has a waiting list for warehouse units. Also his attempt Pros: Vendors That Try To Work As A Team Cons: Manager Treats Vendors Like Employee's Not Customers more

Sorta Good Flea Market - Poor Management 8/31/2011

I have been going to this flea market as a vendor for a while now and from who I talk to ( Plus Seen) the management is definitely not professional. Every time I go in to pay for my table the man sits there with that little demeanor look as if he just is not happy with himself or his business. I too, have been in the office and he has literally gotten into an argument with a vendor and he has NO respect for those who keeps him in business, none the less the customers who come to view the vendors merchandise. Yes, I do very good there for I offer my customers something that the management at the flea market does not. A sincere ""Thank You"" and I talk to all my customers (especially returning customers) with respect and kindness for I know that they are the reason that I am succeeding in my business. A sincere ""Thank You"" to all who visitors who makes my business what is it...Successful As for the rednecks treating animals like they do. This is the south and Lexington County will NOT do nothing unless it involves murder or robbery. So the poor animals are doomed to the hands of their handlers. more

Good flea market, BAD ANIMAL CRUELTY! 8/27/2011

Okay, I just moved to the area and I have to say this is a good flea market. It's really big, and there are a lot of vendors there. Most of them are very nice and will negotiate on prices. There is a pretty good canteen as well where you can get lunch. The downside...as is with most flea markets, is that they have a vendor in L20 called Reptile City and they clearly neglect their animals. Before entering, there are a few small cages FILLED with rabbits. There are about 6 rabbits to each cage, and they can't even stand up to walk. None of the rabbits in one cage had water and it was 95 degrees. They were overcrowded and were panting. I did not go inside, but my fiance did. When he came out he was disgusted. He said there were feeder rats in an OPEN cage, and some were alive, some were on their backs panting and dying, and some were dead with flies buzzing around them. While it's fine to have feeder rats, you should FREEZE them if they are not alive, not contaminate all of the other rats living in the same tank. There were also dead mice in another tank. Also in Reptile City were snakes that had no food or water in their tanks. The people working there were total rednecks who were sitting around laughing and did not even show one SLIVER or humanity for these poor animals. DO NOT BUY ANY ANIMAL FROM THIS FLEA MARKET! more

Gladys Harley Boots @ Barnyard 6/5/2010

There is a Harley Davidson Boot dealer located at the Barnyard. My husband and I have purchased many pairs of boots from Gladys over the years. We purchased a pair a week ago, the stitching came undone and we returned them after being worn an hour. She wouldn't exchange them, said she couldn't sale ""used"" boots. We are stuck with a pair of bad boots and very disappointed with her customer service. She knows my husband and I by name, knows we sent her a lot of business and spent a lot of money with her. We now know she is all about the money. Very sad. The rest of the flea market seems good, she's horrible. Buyer BEWARE! Don't let the sweet little elderly lady fool you! She's all about the $$$$$. Cons: Bad Customer Service & goods more

Really fair 3/9/2010

First let me say I knew Gerald before he came to this market and yes he is a straight forward person and if you try and take advantage of him or not follow the rules of the company or pay your rent that is when he has a hot head , by the way leather know how to spell someone's name when you are going to talk about them. As for the pocket book lady get both sides I went to Gerald and ask him about this if he would evict someone like that and he would not give me a name of the person but he assured me that it was not true. So he told me the story of what happened and then I asked someone else and they comfrimed it. The vendor had a leak and brought the pocket book in for credit. He told her he would give her credit for the purse for what she paid for it. First off let's say your rood leaked at the mall who pay's, your insurance company not the landlord, but he did tell her he would cover the cost, she then started to get loud and saying it was a expensive purse and he told her three time not to get smart but she could not see that he was doing more than he has to by paying her for what she paid. At that point is when he told her she would leave the market. Come to find out the lady almost was kicked out that market for her attitude over a 3.50 purse. Pros: as long as you follow the rules and pay your rent Cons: wish it was larger more

Being a vendor at the Barnyard Flea Market 1/8/2010

If you want to sale at the Barnyard Flea Market, I highly recommend this place. It is one of the most clean places I've ever seen or been to. Very Friendly employees and surrounding vendors (if you are selling). I have shopped at this market for years and then decided to come as a vendor and I was very impressed and would come back again. Pros: Great place to sale/shop more

Hot Headed Manager 10/14/2009

I was in the office this past weekend to inquire about a permanent spot at this location, A lady was in to pay her rent and had a question about a hand bag that had been damaged by a leaky roof, The Manager I believe his name was Jerald, got really bent out of shape, in fact went as far as to give the lady her 30 day eviction notice all over a $3.00 hand bag. This in my opinion is no way to treat you customers. I have thought about the way this lady was treated by the management at this market and decided that it's not somewhere that I can feel good about being as a permanent vendor, I would hate to spend time to build up a client base and then have a man like Jerald who has no ability to negotiate, evict me over a small complaint. Come on!! So if your thinking of becoming a permanent vendor at this market, walk through and talk to some of the vendors like I did before you make a decision, 6 out of the 10 that I talked to only had negative comments about the management ( Jerald ) at this location Pros: Great Bunch Of Vendors Cons: Manager has inability to negotiate problems more

BOYCOTT THIS LOCATION 6/21/2009

Unlike the Barnyard location in Pineville (that also has ALEC H CHAPLIN, JR as its registered agent) this location still permits the sale of live animals and does not appear to regulate how their vendors care for the animals. Cons: Still permits sale of live animals more
