Beware, much better in the area 10/27/2011

I have two dogs and have used the services at Barnstable Animal Hospital for 9 months (I have a puppy and a rescue that arrived within 2 weeks of eachother). The office staff are helpful somewhat but a little challenging for the new dog owner like myself. Dr. Taylor has been wonderful with the dogs but not thorough with his evalutions of my rescue dog. I feel that the staff and vets do not listen to me nor want to aknowledge that I might know what's going on with them. My choices for how I feed and care for them are criticisized at best (raw food will "kill them"). My puppy is home grown from my nieces dog who lives on a farm. "Well I hope the bitch has been fixed by now!" I have been advised that my puppy is "too small to go for a walk," and they weren't kidding! (she'll never be more than 5# and is just like a big dog in her desires to walk and play). Recently my rescue was misdianosed with disc disease. Even though I am a pediatrician I was dismissed when I asked for XRays and Tic born disease panel and given an RX of steroids. I asked for follow-up after the steroids and was shut down by the front office staff. Second opinion obtained at Deer Run Vet in Falmouth. Dog has Ehrlichia and two beebee pellets in him from his life as a stray. One at T12 where his pain is located. He is much better after a week of antibiotics. In retrospect when my rescue dog had bloody diarrhea last spring and was diagnosed with colitis because he was "nervous", he had his acute phase of erhlichia. He is not a nervous dog at all. Best vets with personal touch and low fees 7/11/2011

Dr. Joly, Dr. Risley, and Dr. Taylor are all very knowledgeable, friendly, and caring doctors who clearly love taking care of animals. They have been fantastic with my dog and cats for 5 years now through many diagnoses and treatments for various diseases and conditions. As a doctor myself, I appreciate their approach and they care for the parents as much as the pets! Their fees are extremely reasonable, much lower than most other vet offices in the area so there's really no excuse why they shouldn't care for your pet family members! You will not be disappointed! more

I have been going to Barnstable Animal Hospital for 16 years, I trust all three of the Dr's there, Dr. Risley, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Joly have always showed compassion, and true knowledge when treating my dogs. more

After 16 years I still think they are the BEST! 11/18/2010

I have been going to Barnstable Animal Hospital for over 16 years now. Dr. Risley, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Joly are the best balance of Dr's you can ask for. Dr. Risley has a vast knowledge of small animal care and what she doesn't know, she researches and gets the answers. Dr. Taylor has done several very delicate operations on my dogs and all were great successes. Dr. Joly has one of the most patient bedside manners I have ever seen. She also has a great love for small animals such as ferrets, birds, rats and reptiles. Please go and enjoy the great experiences that I have had there, you will be glad you did Pros: null Cons: null more
